What is the typical width you make a twin size quilt ? (approximate)
I've was startled to read that QOV require between 50" and 72" wide and I got to thinking about that and the resulting size bed they could go on.
So, my question to you--given a choice and plenty of fabric, what is the size you aim for as a twin size quilt--minimum and maximum width, esp. There are numbers all over the internet and they vary wildly. I am asking you all what you do. |
I like a 14 inch drop on 3 sides. The top being flush with the headboard. There is no footboard. The top of the bed is about 38 x 74, so I shoot for around 66W x 88L. But I don't sweat it as long as I can figure out an equal drop. I also make a quilted pillow sham, sometimes two for the top of the bed.

I measure the bed I want to use the quilt on including the drop(how far it needs to hang off the sides). Thick mattresses need wider quilts than thin ones.

I make mine 65 x 85. Just works well for me.

Mine vary but are usually between 60-66" wide.

The skinny ones might be for hospital beds, I think too much drop could be cumbersome. But I rrally do not know. 50 inches wide seems really skimpy to me. Crib quilts are frequentle 45 x60 inches.
Otherwise, my method is a lot like what toverly posted. |
I think 50 x 72 would be considered a lap robe. Standard size for Lutheran World Relief quilts is 60 x 80, which is a skimpy twin size to me. The LWR quilts are sometimes uses as mats, tent doors, or shade, as well as for night covering for adults or children. I like to make my twin size quilts at least 65 x 85 and usually a little bigger.

60 - 65" wide, 70 - 80 long. But mostly I make throws - 50 - 60" wide, 60 - 70" long.

QOV quilts are often used for lap or throw quilts instead of bed quilts.
