What is the very best solid white cotton?

I have been collecting polka dots for a while now, to make various star blocks with white background and sashing in a quilt for myself. For the last quilt I bought Kona solid white, $9.95/yard), and while it had a nice finish it ravelled (unravelled?) badly. I have to admit I did not wash it before using it. (I just hate how fabrics lose their sleek finish and starching doesn't seem to take it's place for me.)

Is there a really outstanding solid white that someone knows about and can recommend to me?

Thanks a lot for helping me -- this site is definitely my Go-To for all quilt-related matters.

Was that Kona Kaufman? I've been using KK and starch heavily and never had
this problem. I use it washed as well as unwashed depending on the project.

I have been quilting for over 30 years and it seems to me that most fabrics are made where they easily unravel. At Hancock's of Paducah RK Kona cotton is $5.98 a yard.

I just finished a quilt using black Kona for the background. I did not like the raveling either. Tired of the black threads all over my carpeting! I would recommend Moda Bella solid. I have used it before and have really liked it. It comes in lots of colors and I believe they may have a few different shades of white.

I'll second Moda Bella solids. Check www.thousandsofbolts.com.

I cannot be sure...I don't think the cardboard center said Kaufman.

My personal favorite is Bella solids, then I go for Kona.

I'm doing just fine with a good bed sheet. I may curse the thread count when I quilt it, but it handles great and looks great and was a very thrifty option!

I'll add in a vote for Moda Bella - I find Kona a bit too thick and harder to work with.

I use both the Bella solids & the Kona's. I like both. I order them from MSQC for $5.95 a yd. I've been happy with both brands. But, as others have said, I make sure I starch mine before cutting.
