A friend of my daughter's has asked me to make a memory quilt from her deseased father's clothing. The fabrics would be denim, flannel and shirting. I suggested a rag quilt since there would be a mix of fabric. She will pay me for it but I have no idea what to charge. Any suggestions as to the price? It would be a lap or afagan sized. Any suggestion or ideas would be most welcome.

Thank you, Roserita

Does this person want this to be done as a favor or do you want a fair return for your time and effort?

Not trying to be cynical or snotty here, but - - - -

I am sure it is not as a favor, as I don't know her that well.

I think someone else on here did that exact same thing and ended up having to redo it.
That's touchy...I wouldn't even go there myself.

One of my student's mom's felt strongly her daughter would survive not seeing me every day (5th grade does end  ) unless she had a quilt made by me. I told her I didn't do orders because there's too much I want to do and I don't do it for the money. But she wore me down. I told her $15 an hour, but I didn't know how long it would take. I told her it wouldn't go over $300. They paid for the flannels, and I kept close track of my hours and it came to $250 or so--but she gave me $300 anyway.

It's just not something I want to do. If something's going to go wrong--you know it'll be when the project is someone else's

Another parent asked, and since she was also a friend, I said "no, but I'll teach you how to make one for your daughter."

Sigh.... I hate saying no, but I'm getting really good at it.

Good luck--go by the hour--give her a cap--and see what she says.
