What would you do for a border?
1 Attachment(s)
Hi Y'all!
My friend made this top, I offered to LAQ it, and we're donating it to the senior center auction this spring. It's 2" squares, and is (I think) 78 x 108. The pattern name is Seven Letters Quilt Pattern Miss Rosie's Quilt Company. I'd like to add about 7" in borders. I thought about coming back in and putting a narrow brown and then some type of pieced border on the outside...but I haven't been able to really 'see' anything that I think will go. Do you have any ideas please? Thanks, Jan |
Wow! Great quilt and lots of work with all of those squares! I'd start with a narrow brown border the size of the squares, so 2". Not sure what beyond that. Ok, just did some Pinterest searching...what about a wide brown border with a row of red and tan blocks like this one:

that's a great quilt. I like your idea of putting in a narrow brown as a stop border. I think a narrow black border would be nice too. I am thinking red for the outer border...

Beautiful quilt! I might play with a thin black inner border and then a wider red one?

You already have a long quilt at 108" in length. I would just put binding on it. Very nice scrappy quilt. Does your friend have any scraps left over to do a piano border on the sides??

Sew pretty!

piano keys would look nice I think

I agree with Dina.

Before you add any borders, do an exact measurement of the top. If it is really 108" in length already, I don't think you want to add to that. You could add borders just to the narrower sides, making the quilt closer to a queen or even king size.

Thanks everyone for the comments. It truly is 108 in length - so with a pillow tuck I think it'll be ok with borders. The width on a queen bed just isn't wide enough for enough drop. I have several options and appreciate everyone's input!

Ohh duh! I didn't read all the comments. Yes a tuck for the pillows would take it up. |
that is a beautiful quilt yes I think it would look good with the brown and then if you want it pieced border you could do piano key with the colors in the quilt.

First of all, I'm a huge fan of double borders, the inner one more narrow and the outer one more wide. (Think of the matting around pictures.) I agree with a narrow inner border using the dark brown. For the outer border, tho, I'd stay with the "squares" motif you've got going rather than switch to another (tho piano keys wouldn't be awful). Perhaps do a checkerboard border using the red and cream tones. (Wish I had a photo for you.) Then bind the quilt with more of the brown.

I would try to add borders to the sides but not the top and bottom!

What about a dark brown narrow border, then either red or tan squares set on point (with HST's in the opposite color) and finish with another narrow dark brown border?
|
Wow! Beautiful quilt and the colors just make the whole quilt pop.. whatever kind of border you put on I'm sure it will look great..
