Someone posted this pattern to me a while ago: http://www.prairiequeenpatterns.com/html/prairie_chicken.html and I have always liked the look of it so I have had a go at it, not the easiest of patterns to follow as there is not much info but I got there in the end and am quite pleased with it.
http://inlinethumb07.webshots.com/45...425x425Q85.jpg My question is that all the triangles are made by sewing a square onto another square/rectangle and folding over, now most patterns tell you to trim away the excess but............ I am trying to get rid of some of my scraps not make more so I have not trimmed just left the extra layers in, well it will be warmer won't it ;) What would you do? |
I just made triangles that way but sewed on both sides of the cutting line so when I cut I would have a 1/2 sq triangle block finished. I will use them in the border of the quilt or a pillow to match.
I don't see the problem with leaving them in but fabric is expensive! |
Pam Bono's pattern use the same technique, I would leave it.
Great block!!! |
The only problem I could see is if you are hand quilting it. Keep us posted as you progress:)
Leave them in especially if they are small.
I trim out the middle layer to reduce bulk. I leave the original background to keep things more square.
I would leave it.
I do it all three ways. The 2nd triangle can be used in a doll quilt.
Thanks for your input Ladies, most of them are itsy bitsy 2.5" squares, there are 2 blocks that are 4.5" I might trim those, maybe
I think it is beautiful! If you want to leave them in, and it won't be an issue when quilting, I say go for it :D:D:D
