My first reaction was, "He is out of his mind!!!"

Sheila_H 02-28-2012 06:53 PM

Wow that is a lot of money for patterns you can buy brand new patterns now starting at $6 and up it sounds like someone is trying to get rich off a deceased relative. If and that's a big if there was any chance that they are valuable then it should have been appraised for value.

Jerudy 02-28-2012 08:43 PM

I have one of those same binders, I bought at an estate or yard sale, couldn't have been more than $3 or $4, I wouldn't have bought it if it was more.

beatys9 02-28-2012 10:36 PM

Thanks for the laugh...

Amythyst02 02-29-2012 04:10 AM

Thanks to you all for the morning chuckles !!

Linda1 02-29-2012 04:35 AM

I have much better ways of spending $300.00. That is way too high for patterns.

grann of 6 02-29-2012 04:41 AM

Someone else trying to profit from someone else's death. Remember those offers we used to get in the mail for a pattern a month at X dollars, till you completed the set? I had knitting patterns like that, that I fell for. Well, I found the directions difficult to follow and most of them I would not even use. So I would say maybe $10 a binder at most. It bothers me that someone wouldn't just take them to Goodwill or something, rather than sell them for some exorbitant price on CL.

orangeroom 02-29-2012 04:41 AM

I agree with pretty much everyone who has posted already. No, not worth it. Thanks auntpiggy who researched it and found one on ebay for $19.95!!!

Simply absurd what some people try to milk others for!

Happy Tails 02-29-2012 04:47 AM

Too many free patterns online to bother with that. For $300.00 you could pick out a lot of pattern that you actually do like. JMHO Wendy

piepatch 02-29-2012 05:04 AM

No way he will ever get $300.00 for those binders!...............not even close to that.

maryfrang 02-29-2012 05:18 AM

People on Craigs list must think it is a place for top dollar. Little do they know, people are looking for bargins. I guess he did not want to sell the patterns, that is why they are priced soooo high. Besides the patterns usually have earier methods since they were first published. Oh well I'll pass on this one.

cactusmomma 02-29-2012 05:27 AM

wow, I have those. not selling them. I think that is way too much.

collady 02-29-2012 06:18 AM

You can probably find all the same patterns on line --- FREE! The seller probably isn't a quilter and has no idea. Run like crazy. I have made three huge binders of free quilts and put fancy covers on them for my own use. I hope that when I die, no one in my family tries to sell them!

Morag 02-29-2012 06:58 AM

I was involved in buying patterns monthly for and filled both of those binders years ago. I love them and have used them but nooooooooooooooooooope would not pay anywhere close to what he is asking.

hoppa 02-29-2012 07:07 AM

WAy overpriced!Bow that I see that they came with the templates might have picked some of them up at our guilds donation table.

Barb1949 02-29-2012 07:15 AM

Thats a shame...problem is he doesnt even understand what he is selling.

Annaquilts 02-29-2012 07:24 AM

I have one and like it but I agree all patterns in it are available online. Also because of their age the information and techniques are very dated. All the patterns are templets from before rotary cutting. So there is a sheet with hard plastic that has strips printed on it for log cabin templates, double wedding ring, bears paw or thumbling blocks etc. All these patterns and many more you can find on http://www.quilterscache.com/QuiltBlocksGalore.html for free. I bought mine because there are a couple of quilt stencils in the back. Not the best made but I wanted them and the book is nice but not $150 a piece. I would probably sell mine if I could get $150.

JulesMcTool 02-29-2012 07:47 AM

With so much available for free on the internet - $0. Find things YOU enjoy, your bucket list probably has nothing to do with those binders. Quilt what YOU want to quilt.
:)

athenascooter 02-29-2012 08:18 AM

I would not pay that price for the binders. I had these many years ago and you don't use it that much. You are better off to buy a new book with updated information

IdahoSandy 02-29-2012 09:01 AM

My answer is no, as you can go to Amazon.com and buy old quilting books a lot cheaper.

w7sue 02-29-2012 09:03 AM

I have that set - I think I paid $5 for it at a garage sale - have never used it - I would probably be willing to sell it to you for the same as I paid for it plus the shipping if you want it ... I have no idea what it would cost to ship it - two three-ring binders - it looks pretty complete, but no guarantees. I live in Oregon.

diamondee 02-29-2012 09:34 AM

A lot of people wont even use these patterns because rotary cutting and quick piecing has already made making a lot of patterns easier. He's dreaming if he thinks he will make that kind of money.

GiGi 02-29-2012 10:01 AM

Better yet, send him the ebay address for the $19.95 binder. Tks. G

jbj137 02-29-2012 10:14 AM

I bought one (only partially fully) at the Salvation Army store for $1.00.
I think that is way toooooo much for the books.

onaemtnest 02-29-2012 10:36 AM

I think you've gotten enough responses resounding absolutely no. The seller probably looked at retail stickers that may still be on the patterns and added them up coming to the magical number of $300.

I wish I could get what my house was worth just 3 years ago, but reality is, you only get what the market will bear and IMHO that includes a binder full of patterns. Used or opened or not opened, his sky is a very different color than what in reality it truly is.

The seller likes these patterns too much and therefore will probably keep on owning them.

catmcclure 02-29-2012 11:11 AM

One binder is on ebay - the bid is $19.99

Debbie C 02-29-2012 11:17 AM

I agree with all of the answers - I would NOT pay anything for these as they are now somewhat outdated and most, if not all, patterns are easily accessible online or through much more reasonable avenues.
Too many are trying to 'make a killing' on CL, like one I came across recently. They were trying to sell a 'pristine antique Singer featherweight' for $899. The photo showed a dirty, badly rusted, long forgotten sad little machine. It truly broke my heart!

GammaLou 02-29-2012 11:26 AM

I might give him $10 each if I saw any thing I thought was interesting. You can get almost any published patterns in books or collections for much less than what he is asking!!

quiltingcandy 02-29-2012 11:34 AM

All I could say was, "Oh My!"

Sassylass 02-29-2012 11:36 AM

He did say he is open to offers..

SandyQuilter 02-29-2012 11:43 AM

Just be aware that the patterns may/probably are NOT ACCURATE. I dealt with Oxmoor House books in the mid 1970s as a new quilter. Had some of their books and one pattern I recall had a patch ½-inch off. Try to fit a 3-inch square to a 2½-inch triangle and you're sure you're going nuts. That's when I learned to premeasure templates. Then finding out one company's inch is not another company's inch is another story. These are only two reasons I'm such a stickler about being accurate. $300 sounds like a lot to me for buying something that you have to redraw, however, to a collector of old patterns, this may not matter.

I have a set of those binders and believe you me I didn't pay anyting like that for them total when all said and done I paid $50.00 and they are in pristine condition as well. I have had them now for 10 years.

kydeb 02-29-2012 12:31 PM

WOW! Whoever has them listed is dreaming!!

He is firm on the $300, too.

Just thought I would post so if anyone has a set of these binders...

I just paid $6 each at the Wickenburg quilt show last month.

penski 02-29-2012 01:14 PM

that seems exspensive to me

Deanie 02-29-2012 01:25 PM

I have the same book, had it for several years. I don't think it is worth that much! I would think about it very carefully before I would pay that much for any book.

Deanie 02-29-2012 01:32 PM

I have had those same books for several years. They are good, but not that good. He is trying to pull a fast one.

glenda5253 02-29-2012 02:23 PM

These volumes look just like the ones I inherited from my mother. It has the templates to cut the quilt pieces but it is pre rotary cutting era and doesn't give instructions for rotary cutting all the quilt pieces like we are used to now. This makes the patterns useless other than to look at for me. Of course I would never get rid of the book because my mother compiled it and did several of the patterns so it's priceless to me in that way but not useful as I would not go back to cutting out quilt blocks like this.

DonnaQuilts 02-29-2012 03:33 PM

Our quilt guild gets $3.00 a binder for similar ones. He's whistling Dixie.
