What would you recommend?
 

I have two antique quilts that were left with me to do some repairs. I let the person know I had to finish some work for another individual that came prior to her. She was fine with that. So I finish the work on the first and decide to call and let her know how things were progressing. Her number is no longer in service. I have no way of reaching her and don't know if is because of Covid or what. I am not going ahead to do the work on the second quilt until I have heard from someone who knows something. The person's name is Jane Spencer, a very nice lady. Her disconnected phone is 662-890-7783, does anyone recognize it? What I wondered is what would you do with these quilts and how soon?

We had a similar thing happen. We did some internet research and found her daughter. Her daughter let us know that she had died, and she came and got the quilt.

I don't want to publish more personal data, but I got quickly got results relating to apparently a daughter named Jane, and a father named John A. I'll send a private message with the info.

I would finish the quilt repairs on both pieces. Then when the owner or someone from the family is located you can say you have done the job as requested and agreed upon. I hope you locate the owner. The quilts obviously were important to her and she trusted your skill to handle the precious pieces of her quilting history.

That's a tough call Deb. I wouldn't do anymore work on the quilts. There's a good chance you'll either receive payment for what you've already done so why put in more work that you don't get paid for? I'm not sure what you can do other than an internet search and then just wait.

How did the two of you make your connection in the first place?
Perhaps back tracking can help you solve your mystery?
If you are close enough, perhaps a visit to her home?
The neighbours may be able to give you the info you need.

As to the repairs? .......... Perhaps with the goodness of your ♥, you could finish the 2nd quilt as well. If you find her, then you have them ready to return. Consider how the repaired quilts may warm her ♥, or her family's ♥s, should you eventually make the connection and find not so good news, such as serious illness, or worse, death. If you don't find them, you would still have the quilts ready on a moments notice, if eventually you do.

Do a search in the state obituaries for her name.

First of all I am sorry you have to go through this to track her down. I would not start the second one until I have made contact with someone either her or her family. Go back to the beginning of how she found you. That would be the first way to track her. There maybe someone would know what is going on. Another thing you may want to do is vet these quilts with all the information you know about them going as far back as you were told with names dates weddings and so on. The history tells the story when all else may be lost. Let the history live on. Hopefully you will be able to find her of family soon.

If you look on truepeoplesearch.com, a free search site, enter her name and MS as her address, several Jane Spencer results will pop up. I think she was the second. It lists their address and phone numbers first. Her disconnected phone number you listed is the first number shown for her, in addition to a cellphone number and 2 or 3 more land lines. Shows her current home address, an associated name, email address, many possible relatives and many possible associates and a possible business. I am sure that with all this information you will be able to find out what you need. I have used this site several times and it's really free and always given me the the info I was seeking. It also has the option to gather background, criminal, etc but I just ignore that part. I'm always just looking for for a phone number number or an mailing address. Good luck.
