I am a new quilter (6 quilts done now) and I'm about to finish my first quilt for a soon-to-be born baby. The gender is not known.
I've been writing a short message, recipients name, my name, year, and washing instructions, on my other quilts. For example Happy Birthday, Luke! Quilt by Blake Ehrlich 2010 Machine wash cold, Tumble dry low But I'm not sure what to write on this one. Something like "Congratulations Lauren and Brian!" or "Welcome Baby!"?? Neither really sound right. Any suggestions?? |
How about Created especially for New Baby Smith...

Hi there, How about Welcome Baby (last Name). Thats what I do.
|
I don't know about writing this on the label, but someone posted the following poem which I saved on my computer. It would be a nice addition to a card maybe:
For the New Baby This quilt of many colors was made with love and joy, I hope it helps to welcome your precious girl or boy. Use it during playtime or when they go to sleep, Use it when you cuddle them, the chill away to keep. Wrap this quilt around them when on an outing you go, This quilt was given to be used, not just made for show. And as mother, children can make a mess I know, If the quilt gets dirty, in the washing machine it can go. Author Unknown |
We called my youngest grandchild "Newby" before he was born and that's what I put on his first quilt.
|
I've traced pictures from a babys book, or something sentimental along the lines of when I can't be there to hold you, curl up in this quilt and know I love you.... that kind of stuff :) Is it a family member? I did one that had apples on it and welcomed the newest apple on our family tree.
|
If I don't know the name, I write something along the lines of "May you always be wrapped in your parents' love" and then add my name, location, date.
Cheers, K |
I usually put this on all my quilts that I make for someone special.
The best kind of sleep beneath Heavan above, is under a quilt handmade with love... Then just sign your name |
I love what Belmer said. Thanks for this may i use it on my next Baby quilt?I suggest using it on your Baby Quilt Label just my 2 cents(:)

I like what the others have said. Try to put the care instructions somewhere else though or maybe just tell the parents :)

I put something like this. I try and give my quilts a name. It may have something to do with the fabric. For example I made a quilt with fish on it and named it....
Here Fishy, Fishy Made special for Baby Smith by Jane Jones ( I put the babies name if you know it) September 14,2010 (date baby was born) |
Here a poem I found on the internet -
This quilt is made of cloth and thread to place upon your little bed. It's not an heirloom just to keep, but to lay upon as you count sheep. Or perhaps the floor's a perfect place for a doll and teddy picnic space. This quilt can be anything you dream, from a super cape to a robe of a queen. Pertend it's a raft at sea, or just cuddle up when you watch TV. So use it up and wear it out, I promise I won't yell or pout. Just tell me when it's days are through, and I'll be glad to make a new one just for you. Then I sign my name and the date and my city and state. |
