BATIKS & more batiks!!!! Also backings
I'm trying to behave a bit and have been good. When I do buy fabric (usually a sale I can't resist) it's blenders, white/neutrals, and some batiks. Something that I can work into my other fabrics.

Just received in $2.49 a yard polar bear, manitee, shark and penguin Timeless Treasures fabric from Fabric.com . I also recieved in the army fabric that I ordered from them. Originally I was going to only order the army fabric but when I saw the animal prints, some my favorites on clearance, well I had to order some for backing. I plan to make gift quilts from these fabrics using the animal print for backing.

I am looking for chicken-y prints. I want to do a chicken quilt. Also blenders and tone-on-tones. Batiks would be nice, but am on limited budget!
I went shopping this week to the thrift stores and found some xmas fabrics. I also got a book by Georgia Bonesteel New ideas for Lap Quilting.
I just discovered that I LOVE batiks...our LQS had some Fat quarters for 2.50.....bought a bunch of blues, purples, teals, SO PRETTY!
I love retro prints and have bought a few lately. I am refinishing my grandparent's dresser that has been in my basement for five years. When I emptied it to strip the drawers, guess what I found? More fabric (two huge drawers full) that I had stashed there when I moved into this house five years ago. I think I will remain on a diet till I make some of it disappear.
I do a batik wallhanging for gifts and chairity auctions and occasionally add to that stash since the design uses the same color and type of fabric. Rather like adding yeast to the sourdough or however dourdough is made.
I did pick up 50 yds of assorted seconds yesterday which will do good for crib qult backings. Otherwise, I try and buy only for a project. |

Every time I go to JoAnn's, Hancock's or our local quilt shop, like yesterday, I buy a fat quarter of this or a 1/4 or 1/2 yard of that. Our quilt shop is having their big sale and I got some fabric that was 70% off plus another 20% off. Spent $15.00 and got a fat quarter, a yard of this, two yards of that and a leather thimble (hand quilting). Did pretty darn good! Had a ball too. If something grabs my eyeballs, that's it! I love batik and I love multi colored tonals and I love the prints, oh, heck, if it feels like cotton, it must be cotton and I gotta get it! Edie

I am always on the lookout for good browns and off whites, to blend into quilts. I love the browns, but then I like the rest of the colors too.
Lately I have been adding solids. Also novelty fabrics.
Mostly sale table unless I need a particular color for a project. Hit a batik fat quarter sale for $1 recently so I confess, blew a $20 real quick. But do have a project in mind to use them in. Mostly try to use stash.

Funny you should ask because while cleaning out/organizing my sewing room recently I discovered how my taste in fabric has evolved over the years. Right now I find myself transitioning from colorful batiks and geometrics to being seduced by civil war/1800s reproduction fabrics. My GGD is thrilled at my discovery because she was the recipient of a couple of huge boxes of fabric I am no longer smitten with, but fabric which she has recently developed a crush on.

Holidays are soon here, SSN $ not working. No buying for me. Yep, Fabric diet; good description.
Yesterday, I looked around and realized how much fabric I have (way too much). I went crazy over Kaffe Fassett and bought piles of it on ebay. I decided that this weekend I will sort it and see what I do have (no idea). Unless there is something I need for backing or binding I am on a fabric diet. I even managed to go to HL a couple of weeks ago and did not let my eyes wander to the fabric. Note: I live less than a mile from HL.
I am not adding to stash just trying to get material to finish things I have started.
Everything I can get my hands on! No really, I Buy some fabrics just bc I like em, right now have 2 tops done and fixin to quilt them. Have bought fabric for several other projects that even I dont' know are!!!
Mostly on a stash diet but if I add anything it will be batik. I just love the feel and colors
When I just can't stand it anymore, I tend to buy neutrals. I am so drawn to them and after deciding that the next quilt I make will be scrappy, you can never have enough neutrals!! I have heard that at many seminars and from scrap quilters. However, I find that I also need white on whites, but in smaller quantities than the neutrals.
I have been mostly buying ties from the thrift stores...have about 300 now.
My best find so far has been an Elvis tie that my son quickly grabbed.... Elvis on a "bike"... too funny! |
Blenders. I plan on making a Sampler Quilt and I want to be sure I can use my stash. But only when on sale!

Trying to use up some of my stash - as in "scrappy bulls eye"'; that was a ton of fun....no matching!
However a recent 50% off sale pulled me into LQS and...Oh my! - a treasure trove I couldn't resist. Silky Northcott will always attract me; bought some colors which are different for me: Visual Arts. I don't know what category but, to me, it's not traditional. Love it....how long will it sit while waiting for a project? Who knows! As for Christmas: I've plenty left over in that stash. |
Using up stuff, and adding only what I need for project at hand, however I am sorely tempted when I hit the fabric stores, so I only go when I NEED something!
batiks and I am dying my own fabric
I need to be on an extreeme fabric diet, but I LOVE scraps and anything I can score for less than 2.99 a yard!

Anything Christmassy
very little! however, when the weakness overcomes me i buy batiks.
oops, just added a kit to the list....it was a must have....;)
I was told when I started to quilt I had to have stach. Why? After using it up in church quilts. I only buy for the project and still have left over for church quilts.
My stash is collecting retro prints that former quilters are giving to me...I'm thrilled! :)

where is the thread about the jelly roll. I think I missed it. I only have one jelly roll but don't know what to do with it. Also how do you know what kind of material too buy unless you have a quilt in mind. I don't have a quilt in mind but when I go too Wal-mart there is so much pretty material that if I had the money I would pick up some of it. Also I have tons of old shirts and things my DH brings in from the goodwill and all of them say 100% cotton but they don't all feel a like. Do you go ahead and just use them all together or do you separate the 100% cotton according too thinkness. How do I began too cut the shirts up without an idea or a pattern to go by? Thanks for your time.

Same diet here no more room, and saving money to get some larger UFO's quilted by longarm.

The economy & our current situation warrants I be a little more frugal. Hard; yes, but I don't feel confidant in the future. I'm glad I have purchased quite a bit the past 4 years since I started. It'll keep me busy. |
