My lovely Winter Block Swap has reached its end :( and while I have the Winter Dear Jane Swap running I feel motivated to get another one going....

Some ideas..... some sort of round robin? Could be interesting to get one started with the new year. A buddy swap?

How about a Christmas Stocking swap? That could be interesting....

I'm willing to host but I'm low on ideas, so tell me what you guys want to do and I'll run something :)

mrspete 10-19-2010 08:30 PM

I like the stocking swap idea. would we make 12 as we did in the block swap? Wow

bookworm 10-19-2010 08:31 PM

I was thinking if we did that we would do a buddy one. One stocking for one person type of thing. That way all your creative genius could come out :)

mom-6 10-19-2010 08:34 PM

Love the idea of a stocking swap! Hope I can figure a way to have time to do it!!!

JAS 10-19-2010 09:01 PM

Only ideas:
Row by Row with a theme...each row differnt example: Winter -snowman -santas-reindeers-steaming cups of favorite hot drink each cup using differnt fabrics- mittens-ginger bread houses- ginger bread men/or ladies -snow globes.
or a subject: Houses each row being differnt ones
or a holiday: Easter- chocolate bunnies -baskets-flowers -maybe combind a row with of 2 or more things basket of flowers..
Could be combination of pieced, paper pieced , appliqued, redwork, foundation done like a sampler ...then everyone would have a taste of different quilting/sewing techiques..

What about a row by row where the theme is picked by the starter of each quilt?

Say you have to start with a row....up to 60" long and then you pass it to the next person. You declare your theme when you sign up. Say I want a black and white themed quilt.

The first row could be 5 sampler blocks. Then the next person decides to to applique, then the next does.... embroidery... or they do another sampler. This make sense? Kinda like the IRRs but in rows instead.

quilterella 10-19-2010 11:12 PM

I like that idea. I will keep watching this one!

mmonohon 10-19-2010 11:16 PM

I would love to do a row by row. Sounds fun.

JAS 10-19-2010 11:18 PM

Sounds ok.*Only delay would be if a person who was to be next was late doing so or dropped out and did not let you know ahead of time what what...*Color could be a problem with some if one dislike say purple( I know who would not like purple) and it was picked to be use. Would you have a choice and do it there own colors? I doubt there are any Quilting Police here. * Would there be a row height? Would look nice to me if not all rows were same in height.
I think it would make very interesting rbr/sampler.

What does IRR stand for ? I know RR is for Round Robin.

Maybe it'd work better if started after holidays? Do you need to be an expert quilter to join? That'd leave me out. How many rows to finish? Just thinking out loud, it's still early am :-)
Does each person make their own 1st row?Do you say what colors you do/do not want used?

lindyline 10-20-2010 01:46 AM

This sounds like fun. Must keep looking in on this one, especially if it ends up as a row by row round robin thingy(for want of a better explanation).

IRR International Round Robin

I would love to be involved in a round robin or boomerang! Will be watching!

Marlys 10-20-2010 07:20 AM

I have never done one, but if a row by row starts after the holidays I would like to try it.

kreinhart742 10-20-2010 07:25 AM

I would love to be included in this either round robin or row by row. I have done a few round robins and you could also do a theme with them say someone wanted snowmen etc.

The row by row can get large so probably limiting the size of the height of the rows say having a minimum and maximum has been done with good success.

Another exchange idea might be a table runner exchange on a monthly basis just throwing ideas out there.

Please count me in on what is decided.

bookworm 10-20-2010 09:07 AM

I'm gonna work on hashing out a few ideas then I'll post it. I'm leaning towards a row robin to start in like January. So there would be a month or so for sign-ups then at least a month for everyone to make the first row.

Just me- Anything I run will be open to everyone. Actually that's a requirement of the swaps anyway :) All skill levels welcome. What I'm thinking is that you would make your first row and decide what you do and do not want in it. And which orientation you want your rows to be... either vertical or horizontal.

JAS - that would be a delay but it happens and I/we would have to deal with it when it happens (hoping that it doesn't) but if you have a month or two to work on it I think it would help keep everything moving.

Say groups of 5 people working on each? 12 1/2" unfinished rows? That would make a pretty decent sized quilt. It would leave you some room to put on your own border when you get it back. I do really like the idea of allowing the starter of each one to pick out what theme/colors they want. It would defiantly allow for more creative work....

Throwing ideas around in my head....

maine ladybug 10-20-2010 09:13 AM

What about a purse or bag of some sort exchange?

Bluphrog 10-20-2010 09:17 AM

What's a boomerang?

A boomerang is where you send out fat 1/8th then they come back to you as a block. I suspect that there will be another one sooner or later.

bookworm 10-20-2010 09:37 AM

I have something fun in the works :) Just waiting for approval

sewTinker 10-20-2010 12:21 PM

bookworm, I'd be interested in a RR after the Holidays. Just let me know the rules, etc. I don't want to sway your thinking, but I am planning a black and pink Warm Wishes and an Oriental
quilt for the New Year. A row by Row quilt would be a good idea.

sahm4605 10-21-2010 04:52 AM

what about a star swap. there are millions of "star" patterns and variations. that would be an interesting one do do maybe.
