I bought my 2nd Elna at a quilt show. I buy patterns and some material that I can't live without.

I found one of those metal tiny scissors and needle tenders with the magnets on the back. I just love it! Saves me from searching for my needles.

Good question, Jan. I bought a beautiful square solid oak quilting frame , adjustable floor model and used it a couple of times. Loved it, but now I have some physical limitations and can no longer use it. Would love to sell it to make room for my "stuff" I am trying to use up before my departure time.... I paid $425 for it and would like to redeem some of that, but doubt any one would pay that much.... It was custom made. So, It was a good buy, not like the EQ7 which I did not like or use.
By the way, I always enjoy your posts and would love to have you for a neighbor!! You are a wise lady!! ();-) |
My HQ 16. I love it and use it all the time. I purchased it at the Dallas quilt show 5 years ago.

My Big Board - I do like it a lot! It's on my ironing board ALL the time. I was not and still am not happy with the cover that I bought for it. It was cut very very skimpy.

I mentioned this in the post for worst purchase but I'll repeat here, my BEST purchase actually best two purchases are the Martelli Round About cutting board..it's like a brooklyn revolver only 16 in. across...it's a dream when cutting out triangles especially. And I love the Martelli rotary cutter.
And then the prize-my Horn cutting and sewing table. I came across it at a quilt show and while it was no bargain, it was perfect for my needs and is big enough to both cut on one side and sew on the other with a sewing machine insert so I can push my machine down and out of the way if I need to spread a large piece of fabric out on the top. They no longer make the model or they made a smaller variation. I like/need the larger. I just bought the clover clips and I'm going to be using them often. Turned the binding on a quilt and held it with the clips...it really was nice not to draw blood as I was sewing...no pins to stick me. And speaking of pins...I LOVE Pinmoors!! I use them when basting my quilts instead of safety pins...fantastic product. |

My Euro Steam Evolution iron. Show price was $200. I love that iron. I could not have made my "Memorial to a Bridesmaid Dress" series without that iron. That fabric was a fake satin poly and you couldn't turn a regular iron up high enough to steam because it would melt the fabric and if you turned it down to the poly setting it wasn't hot enough to get a decent crease on you seams. The Euro iron puts out tons of steam but the sole plate isn't hot enough to burn anything. Awesome iron.
One of the things I got in Madison last year that I really love is my quilting gloves. They are called Grabaroo's. They are purple and fit my hands so nicely and are great at gripping fabric. I want to get another pair to have on hand incase these ever wear out. |
I bought a beautiful oak display chest with a beveled glass top. LOVE IT !!

What a fantastic DH.... he is definitely a keeper!

My best and most favorite purchase at a show was just recently. I sat down to play with a HD Sweet Sixteen. I had been looking at them on and off for a while thinking it was really not in my future. As I was finishing a trial run on this great machine, I saw my husband hand the guy a credit card and tell the guy ring it up. I was astonished as I had not really mentioned my interest in this machine. My guy just knows me well I guess as he said he could see that I was really enthralled with it. We ended up getting the demo model for a reduced price and picked it up the next day. I have been practicing and practicing my quilting on this little gem.

The Martelli Rotary Cutter, it's ergonomic and my hand doesn't hurt so much using it when cutting fabric. Best $30.00 I spent.

It looks exactly like a mini trimmer I got for trimming my cock-a-poo's face. I'm going to do a little experiment with that. BRB |
Okay. I've tried it, and the Wahl Pet Pro, which looks exactly like the device in the video I posted, works great for ripping a straight seam. Most of the time since my last post was spent finding the thing and then threading the machine and sewing a seam to test it on. It's almost as fast to unstitch as it was to stitch. I'm thrilled, because the dog was not at all fond of this thing, and I thought I'd wasted money on it. Thanks, Diannia, for mentioning it.

What a fun thread to read! Last year, I finally invested in a rolling Tutto sewing machine case...LOVE it! My other favorite purchase was a Yazzii travel case for all of my quilting notions. It really could double as a make-up travel case, but it has found the aforementioned use for me. It was a bit more pricey than I wanted to pay, but it is made from a very fine quality fabric inside and out and is very well constructed. I will get many years of use from it. Looking forward to attending the International Quilt Festival in Houston again in just a couple of short weeks!!!! :-)

So you did get the Nolting in! I just sent another private message asking how you like her. I truely hope you are happy with the Nolting.
I am still in love with my lizzie...she just keeps forgiving me for trying new threads, different tools, lol. The fact that I had a machine prior to my TL18LS is what made the difference for me, I think. I hope it's that way for you also!

The worse thing I ever bought was my Tin Lizzie Long Arm quilter. The best thing is the Nolting Long Arm that I replaced it with after only 2 and one half years.
