But nothing beats the high of actually finishing a project!

I absolutely agree with you. I love that wonderful moment when you spread it out and really look at what you've done and all the little things you worried about have turned out just fine. It's all good but that is my absolute best.

MelodyWB 04-25-2011 05:29 AM

The designing..cutting layout and piecing it..my group I belong to..tease me..that I can design and put it together in a week or 2 and it takes me a year to quilt it..lol !!

grandma Janice 04-25-2011 05:30 AM

I love the piecing and mostly the hand quilting. I really don't like the cutting and putting the layers together.

j 04-25-2011 05:34 AM

Putting the three pieces together to get ready to quilt. I always end up having a crease someplace on the back of the quilt. - J

grannypat7925 04-25-2011 05:34 AM

I basically love all aspects but my least favorite is getting it sandwiched and the final quilting done.

Me....I love piecing the tops....I just love seeing the colors go together and the shapes take form.....like putting a puzzle together. I can just do this over and over and over. Gee, if I did this, I could have a never ending stack of UFOs. But it's like an addiction even while I am finishing a project I find myself day dreaming and my mind wandering on over to a new project.

Anyone else have that problem....or am I bi-polar, tee hee. :-D

I am just like you,I can piece tops for ever and keep thinking what one next.

Me too!!! I lie awake at night thinking about the next project (not even close to finishing the first 10...)....what a great addiction!

lauriequilts 04-25-2011 05:36 AM

I love everything about making a quilt :)

pollyjvan9 04-25-2011 05:53 AM

I can't come up with a "favorite" part, but sandwiching a quilt is my least favorite.

katsewnsew 04-25-2011 06:00 AM

Mine is the piecing, love to see all the beautiful blocks come to a reality, then I love the binding, only because I know the quilt will be finished!!!!

mhansen6 04-25-2011 06:00 AM

I love it all except waiting for the quilt to get back from the longarmer. I would love to quilt my own but I just don't have the room for a longarm. I always worry if I am going to like what she does with it also.

MOBRIDGE MOM 04-25-2011 06:02 AM

Designing and piecing for me. I'm not crazy about quilting and there are others who are way better at it so I let them do it.

3TreeFrog 04-25-2011 06:17 AM

Watching the face on the person who receives the quilt as I generally do not tell them that I am making them one! THAT, my friends is what makes me happy!

fabric whisperer 04-25-2011 06:20 AM

designing it, and giving it... although FMQ may become my fave part soon!

quiltnotes 04-25-2011 06:33 AM

I love the piecing and then actually putting the blocks together and seeing it come to life before my eyes.

hperttula123 04-25-2011 06:40 AM

I love quilting, but I really do enjoy piecing it. It is all fun, but the dreaded binding. The binding is the only thing I do not enjoy in making a quilt.

running1 04-25-2011 06:42 AM

Like so many of you, I love it all!!! I don't have the eye for choosing wonderful fabrics that go together in interesting ways, so that is probably my least favorite part, but I still love it...

I even love talking about it and reading about it!! ha ha ha

CarrieAnne 04-25-2011 06:43 AM

Planning and quilting it!

materialgrl 04-25-2011 06:43 AM

I love doing the binding, thats my favorite part

ButtermilkMama 04-25-2011 07:10 AM

I love EVERYTHING about making a quilt except the fear of

it not being the correct size when I'm finished--like maybe

an inch too long or short!

Landers 04-25-2011 07:11 AM

Piecing it!! Wathcing those colors!

newbee 04-25-2011 07:16 AM

Designing, piecing and binding! I don't like the sandwiching or quilting part. Thank goodness my quilt guild accepts just tops for charity quilts and has someone with a longarm quilt them. Then I can get them back and do the binding if I want!

IdahoSandy 04-25-2011 07:17 AM

I love the designing and putting the colors together. If I use someone else's pattern I always change it so it is not exactly like the pattern, so I always have one of a kind quilt. Even before I get through hand quilting a quilt I am designing another one in my "mind" and I get ideas not only here on the board but in nature too.

phyllvog 04-25-2011 07:28 AM

ANYTHING but the piecing!

Barb44 04-25-2011 07:31 AM

Right now, I HATE cutting. That's because each piece has to be ironed first and I am having to cut on a table that is too low. Back is killing me!

I like planning, piecing, but don't like basting/pinning the sandwich, partly because I don't have enough space.

My very favorite part is putting the sandwich in a hoop and putting in that first quilt stitch and then smoothing my hand over a finished section. Something so special to me about hand quilting.

Quilting Grandma 04-25-2011 08:55 AM

Miss M, I'm with you. I love the planning and piecing. I have an E-5 for my computer, but find myyself drawn to graph paper and colored pencils.

I think I am what is laughingly known as a "topper". I don't like quilting. Maybe because I don't have the equipment( longarm or whatever) to work with. Binding I have no trouble with either. Now all I need is money to pay to have my quilting done. I have a box full of UFOs for that reason.............

lillybeck 04-25-2011 09:33 AM

fabrics and designing then assembly until I get to the quilting. It is still not my favorite part.

greaterexp 04-25-2011 09:45 AM

I know few others actually like it, but I even enjoy binding. I really have a ball with every step, since it's one phase closer to the finish and helps me feel like I've accomplished something - even before the whole thing is done.

scisyb220 04-25-2011 10:02 AM

I Love seeing the whole thing done & admire the finished project! But, I love the sewing part the best of the process--piecing it together & seeing how it works together. Terrified of the quilting part, so afraid I'll muck it up. Don't mind the cutting part, find it's actually fun, but I haven't done any complicated patterns, just straight strips & blocks. :-)

grammysharon 04-25-2011 10:03 AM

I like everything, except cutting. I think it is boring

bearisgray 04-25-2011 10:13 AM

Putting on the label - then it is done!

Maybe the very best part - seeing it in use!

MaryAnna 04-25-2011 10:37 AM

I love planning, fabric, cutting & machine piecing....oh I love piecing. The top quilting is a so so, I'd rather have a LA do that so I can go onto my next project!
Blessings,
MaryAnna

Drew 04-25-2011 10:38 AM

I love it all except sandwiching.

RDM 04-25-2011 11:36 AM

I LOVE: planning the design and layout, picking colors and playing with fabrics. I like: piecing, arranging blocks on the design wall, and binding. -- I do not like: the cutting, and since little experience with FMQ that's a battle.

darlin121 04-25-2011 11:44 AM

planning,designing and picking out fabrics.

Jammin' Jane 04-25-2011 11:47 AM

I like picking out the fabric the best! Love to put colors together and visualize!

maryb119 04-25-2011 11:55 AM

I love the whole precess. Each step has some excitement in it for me. I love shopping for fabrics and then chosing thecolors and patterns to go with the design I want to make. Then the piecing...and of course I have to quilt it myself because by the time I'm done with the piecing, I know how I want the finishsed quilt to look and I can't describe that to another quilter. I just love quilting!

misscarol 04-25-2011 12:49 PM

Quilting (on longarm) and Binding!!!

sewobsessed1 04-25-2011 12:53 PM

The hand quilting. Most definitely.

I DO have a huge stack of UFOs for exactly this reason! But before the piecing, I also love enlarging or reducing blocks, deciding how many blocks I want to make (invariably it's not one of the choices given!), calculating yardage and then...well, I hate the cutting but then I get to SEW!!!! And watch it all come together!!!!
