Simple patchwork does it for me. I adore the simplicity of it. All my table toppers are just plain patches nothing fancy.

Angie, I love your rectangle quilts! Especially your fabric choices. Is the bottom one from batiks? Shadowplay?

Charlotte, those aren't batiks. I just used what I had on hand at the time. If I recall correctly, it was a mix of Michael Miller and Connecting Threads fabrics. Maybe something else mixed in. There is a close-up pic of the fabrics (http://blog.ajpadilla.com/2010/09/04...-requirements/), but this particular quilt was made in 2010, so I don't know if any of those fabrics are available anymore.
If anyone is interested in this particular quilt, it was the basis of a quilt-along back in 2010. The posts are still up, with pdf files for yardage requirements and different quilt sizes:

Turning Twenty for me--fast, easy, and shows off large patterns on fabrics (I have a weakness for those fabrics!). :)

I am in the process of making a quilt like this one. The website is down and doesn't give directions on how to do it. I am using 5" squares and 2 1/2" strips. Goes together really quickly!

I do a square in a square for charity quite often. Easy to piece. Fun to sometimes do the blocks off center. Here are the blocks I am currently working on for two charity quilt tops for foster kids.

Yellow Brick Road is the one we go to over and over.

Thanks so much, Angie. I am not always good with colors, so I pay a lot of attention to quilts that I like and try to figure out why the colors work together. Using your link, I could see them a lot better.

hugs,
Charlotte
