What is Your Favorite Technique?
My favorite technique is Paper Foundation Piecing. Wish I could make all my quilts using this method. I have often "redrafted" patterns into paper piecing and I also love to make up my own paper pieced patterns.
What is your favorite technique? |
I'm not sure that I have a favorite technique. The one I don't like is English Paper Piecing. Recently I bought the Easy Angle Ruler and Companion Ruler so doing HSTs and Flying Geese have been much more enjoyable.

I like anything designed by Deb Tucker. Her techniques make units a bit bigger than needed, then are trimmed down to exactly the right size you need. I love how my blocks made with her rulers and techniques fit together so perfectly.

I LOVE epp AND machine applique. i feel i can do anything in machine app. it's so fun.
|
I tried paper piecing just to see if I could even do it.
I didn't really think I'd like it but I do. It's kind of fiddly and getting rid of all those paper bits can be a major drag but the perfectly matched corners and points are well worth it. No matter what I do, I simply cannot gain that kind of precision with any other method. I used to really love QAYG but not so much anymore since I can FMQ and have a cabinet. The cabinet really helps. I think FMQ and quilting an entire quilt is much easier with the flat surface and knowing the darn thing isn't going to tip over. 😄 |
I enjoy various techniques, but don't care for EPP. Love to do Paper Piecing, and doing minis. :)
|
Don't care for EPP (probably because of the hand work I associate with it). I enjoy just about everything else, but for some reason doing HST using squares makes me smile.
|
My favorite technique doesn't always work with all blocks but I love to cut my blocks a little bit larger than trim them down to a perfect size. Learned it from EB of QIAD.

I'm also a big paper piecing fan and the last few things I've done have been pp. When I
started cutting conventionally to make a table runner I had to remind myself to cut accurately--no guestimating the cuts . |
I don't really have any favorites. I love a good challenge and since I'm not that fast at any of them, I just enjoy the process. My present project is one I'm designing on my own and this one was a trial for pictures on the quilt as a memory quilt for where my nephew's been. :-) I love being creative whatever I'm doing.
