I totally love bernina. I got my first in 1965-75 & used it continuosly for over 20 yrs. and, of course, bought another. The LQS started out with Pfas (i'm so sorry but I can't spell) but now also carry berninas & janomes. The three gals have purchased berninas. When one has a machine that works well that is THE machine. I suggest going to different shops, look ar the different machines & chose what feels right.

right now my very favorite is my Singer 201. She sews a perfect straight seam and does not suck in the fabric in the begining. She is a dream to quilt and piece with so I'm in heaven. I got her for $60 and paid $100 to re-wire and clean her and we have been sewing ever since :)

I don't know, I might be a sewing machine snob, but you can't beat a Bernina. I have had 4 different ones. Each one was better then the last. My newest is the 820, I absolutely love it. At this point I won't trade it for anything. ( of course unless Bernina comes up with an even better machine LOL!!) I do have a featherweight that I love. Those old machines are great. Especially if you like a machine that does a really nice straight stitch. Darcey

I love my Designer I & Designer Diamond. I also have a Pfaff CV & if I knew how to use it I might like it also.

Hi Beebs,

I do all my garment sewing and quilt piecing on a Bernina 1130. I bought it about the mid 80's, and I love it. The throat space isn't generous, though I did quilt a kingsize quilt on it once...not an experience I have wanted to repeat. So, I have acquired a Nolting mid-arm. Between the two machines, I feel I have a great team.

I have a Janome 6600P, which I love. The new Horizon is nice too, but more costly. Lee

I have a Bernina 1530 that I got for free last year. After having it serviced, adding a few presser feet and an extension table, it is my go to machine for quilting fun.

I use my Singer, White, and Elna for other tasks.

I love my Brothers. I have a Brother NX2000 (Laura Ashley model) and an NX400. Tons of features, stitches, etc. I just hemmed some jeans on my NX2000 and it went thru all layers like butter. The NX2000 has auto threader, cutter, differential feed, extension table and the list goes on and on. It came with a multitude of feet- didn't have to run out and buy the walking foot- it came with it. The NX400 is a great machine also but smaller and lighter. I also have 2 Singer 201's, a treadle and Singer Graduate which I bought used in the 70's. In buying a new machine, I just thought Brother gave you alot more bang for your buck. I bought the NX2000 during a large quilt show in Wisconsin and was very pleased with what the dealer offered. Love my Brothers!
