Smart idea!

What a great idea

[QUOTE=Dingle; My thought was to have a main neutral cover and then make smaller quilts to lay just on top of the bed. That way I can switch out anytime I want and I would be able to handle smaller tops. I could have tops for every season and Holiday. Dumb idea?[/QUOTE]
I am doing the same with our queen bed. In the past, I used a bed skirt with the quilt covering the mattress. Well, we found the mattresses are getting deeper and deeper when we replaced our mattress. The gap between the quilt and the bed skirt sure did not look appealing at all, lol. I got a white bedspread large enough to go all the way to the floor. This is one happy quilter! |

I think this idea is going to work perfectly for you. I made a friend a beautiful Irish chain and when I brought the top to her home, she told me I needed to add another row in the length and width of the quilt. I was surprised because I had made the quilt 90"x108" I did have enough fabric and did as she said. I hate to see what the LAQ charged her for quilting her almost King size quilt.

It's a great idea. If it works for you, it's not anybody else problem or opinion.

I have white spreads on my beds and each week I change the vintage quilts I lay on top of the spreads. No pets or DH sit or lay on my vintage quilts and I get to enjoy them. It could work for you too.

I have neutral chenille bedspreads on both my beds and I just showcase my quilts on top. It really doesn't matter what size they are. Sometimes I fold them at the foot of the bed if I have matching pillowcases.

It isn't dumb at all. I like the bed runner ideas out there. They are like table runners, narrow and the length you would want. Even hotels ar doing that these days because heavy bedspreads are hard to maintain and aren't sanitary.

This also what I do. I prefer to work smaller to make more (!), and I keep my house neutral so I can change pillows, table toppers, wall art and decorative pieces that reflect seasons and/or holidays. Welcome to the "Let's change it up!" Group:thumbup:
