What's everyone working on? Need inspiration today...
1 Attachment(s)
I'm supposed to be working on quilting a quilt for my new nephew and am totally dragging my feet. Somehow, I measured the batting incorrectly and it's about 5 inches too short, so I'll have to piece it. The little guy arrived Monday evening, and my goal is to finish it up by this weekend so I can ship it on Monday. I've been avoiding the batting problem and quilting parts of it in spite of the issue. I'm getting close enough though, where I'll have to figure it out soon. Also have 2 other projects that are gifts that I'm just not that into right now. I can put those aside but I need to get on this baby quilt...
So, what is everyone else working on/going to work on this week? Here's a pic of the baby quilt. This was before I did any quilting.... |
I am trying to get through a commissioned quilt. Just a simple D9P but like you I am dragging my feet. This is not what I want to work on but do not want to start my fun projects until muddle my way thru this quilt. Let's give each other a gentle push
|
Amen! Have you started yours yet?
|
Cute quilt! I am pondering my FMQ on my table runner. I have quilted the star in the center but can't decide if I want straight line quilting designs or other. Hmmmmm, still pondering.....
|
I have to add binding to a quilt. Not exactly inspiring either.
However, I made some crumb fabric with all my blue scraps then sub-cut that into 60-degree triangles. It is turning out cute. Love the crumb approach - there are no rules and you can whack off a hunk with or without ruler. It is so fun. |
I am quilting some Bible bags. Just figure out how to quilt a miniaturized Falling Charms. The blocks measure 3" finished. The quilt you are working on is adorable. Hope someone in his family loves sailing. I loved racing big yachts when I was a young adult.
|
Tartan, good luck deciding, I'm sure it will look great no matter what.
MadQuilter - Normally binding is the step I get hung up on, I had one sit for 5 years waiting for binding, pathetic, I know. Can you post a pic of your crumb process? You have me intrigued... Maniac - we all love sailing, and the little guy's room is all nautical. :) Those blocks on your bible bags sound tiny and tedious! I'm sure they look super cute though! |
Super cute quilt!!! Simple and so fresh looking. Sure to be a big hit.
|
Thanks luvs! What are you working on?
|
I have mine half done. Trying how to use what fabrics I have to make a nice border. I tend to buy yardage before I have a pattern and then have to work with what I have

I went to a class today to learn about wool applique. I'm making a little round pumpkin mat for the center of dining table. I only got the pumpkins & stems fused to the background. LQS ran out of 2 of the colors of floss I need, so that project is on hold.
I'm finishing a Sun Bonnet Sue/Irish Chain quilt for my 3 year old niece. I'd hoped to enter it into a quilt show this weekend, but I've had to keep stopping because I decided to make it needle turn and found out the hard way that needles are all nickel-plated. I have a nickel allergy so my hands keep swelling up & turning red and splotchy so it's not done yet. I've got most of the piecing done, have 7 of the applique blocks completely done, need to add sleeves on 2 blocks & need to add sleeves & hats on 3 blocks. Maybe it will be done some time next week. Don't feel too badly about the quilt for your nephew. I finished the quilt for my nephew's birth 2 weeks after he was born. He's still had plenty of time to enjoy it. Babies aren't supposed to sleep with bedding anymore & tummy time doesn't start until they're at least 4 weeks old so as long as you get it done sometime this month, you should be good. |
In 2012, right after I decided I'd try quilting, for Christmas, I gave myself a quilt kit by Jinny Beyer. When I looked at the instructions, I quickly put it away. There was no way, I could follow those complicated instructions. This year, I am doing the Craftsy BOM with Jinny Beyer. Last month, it dawned on me that the blocks we are making are very similar to the blocks in the kit I gave myself. Today, I am making the last block in my kit. I am so excited! After Jinny's lessons so far, I was able to make the blocks. The quilt will be gorgeous! I am also putting the sashing on my blocks from the HST Challenge. I made twice as many blocks so that I could make a large quilt for a foster child that I hope will soon be my granddaughter.

your quilt looks great! I am in the middle of a couple of things. My niece gave me a bunch of her college tshirts and I am working on making them into quilts - 2 quilt tops down and probably 2 more to go. I also am in the middle of making a quilt for Quilts for Kids
|
I am working on a few things. One is a Sticks and Stones quilt that is a BOM and I am all caught up and waiting for the next months fabric. Today I got the backing fabric for my Civil War Bride quilt, so will be getting that done. This afternoon I have been doing First Snow wall hanging. It is so cute! I forgot how much I like paper piecing.

Thanks everyone for sharing. I got busy last night and fixed my batting issue. Also got some quilting done. Not as much as I wanted to but got a decent amount done. I think getting it done by Sunday night is doable if I'm not too exhausted after my second job... That's what's really got me unmotivated. I love that second job, it's super satisfying, but also physically exhausting. I work a normal job 7:30-4 M-F and then on Monday and Friday nights go to the other job 5-9, Saturday/Sunday 7-4. So I really only have a few nights a week now to work on my quilty stuff, and only a couple hours on those nights if I balance my time well (hubby/dog/health etc). Right now I just want to get this done and off my plate so I can be selfish and work on more fun things. Ha ha. I keep saying my next project will be for me, but then something comes along that inspires me and I get a desire to make something for someone else, putting my stuff on hold. Sigh... I actually don't even have a quilt in my apartment other than the el cheapo one from that french store, Tar-get. I swear, once this baby quilt and table runner/placemats (for mom's b-day) are done, I'm making one for me!!!

I just delivered a quilt yesterday that had been in my UFO stack for many months. The quilting is the hardest for me so I was waiting any baby girl to come so I could finish it. I have more UFos and more ideas in my head. Need to go fabric shopping for a backing and some background fabric for a jelly roll in my stash, red, off-white and blue, but not necessarily patriotic. It is hard to be motivated to complete a quilt when you have more ideas running around up there in the brain. You have your baby boy so finish up and think of the smiles and love you are seeing to this new family!

l last night I finished 25 blocks for for a class I am taking. Today after I am dressed and have read the paper and had my breakfast I well go down to the basement and see if their is anymore navy solid fabric. That's where I keep my fabric.
|
I'm in the same boat. I just can't get motivated. I need to finish some items for a new GGD that's expected the end of this month. Too many irons in the fire I guess.

this is my project today |
An elderly lady in our church gave me 48 hand embroidered blocks she had done over the years. I made and quilted a queen sized quilt and now I am working on 2 twin Sun Bonnet Sue quilts. We won a blue ribbon at our county fair on the queen sized quilt for both hand work and the quilting. She is giving it to her son who really loved it. The other two will be raffled at our fall church bazaar. I am quilting one of them now and it is turning out really nice. Her hand work is beautiful so quilting it to emphasize her work. Don't know how she sees to embroider the blocks.

Just finished putting together a lap size quilt for my sofa, its hanging on my design wall till I decide on a quilting pattern for it. Have a oversized baby quilt under it still waiting for a quilting pattern layout. Have 30disappearing hourglass blocks sitting on the side of the cutting table waiting to be put together for another over sized lap quilt for a lady I know down in Florida. Have a large quilt on the frame in the middle of quilting it. The top border took over an hour of robotic quilting so you can imagine how long this quilt it taking me to finish up. 9 rows of blocks and each block takes 10 minutes to quilt. But its coming out nice so I'm happy. Also have a pattern I altered for a neighbor for a pair of gaucho pants she wants made. Couldn't work on them yesterday as I was up to my neck making tomato sauce. 10 quarts.

Hi, Huskyquilter; I am working on handbags and totebags that I got from the pellon interfacing website in their projects section.
|
I was going to start mu DD's quilt for her Christmas gift today but DGD called me yesterday and ask if I was going to make her some dresses for her starting school. So out comes my patterns and fabrics for her some dresses. Then I can start on the quilt.
|
I am still working on a mystery BOM that finished last month. I am going to try to finish that and then work on my laptop case.
|
Great quilt for a little boy. Right now I'm trying to get back to quilting after a hiatus due to a right shoulder replacement and the months leading up to it, except for making a queen size top for our family reunion raffle quilt July 4th weekend. I'm working on a pieced and appliqued baby quilt that may go to a friend's daughter for her baby shower Aug. 22, if I can have the top done in time, or to just go ahead, sandwich and quilt a crib size quilt top I've already finished, either way those are my two major projects, then I'm going to be making bags, zippered pouches and other items for a craft fair in early Nov. - trying to make up for lost time.
|
I'm working on a Hoot's Hollow quilt for a dear friend who loves owls. It's all made from 2.5" squares and appliqued panels. I finished the second panel today and am working on the rows of squares that bring it up to the next full row. There is one more panel before the borders with more applique. It's going fairly quickly and I have some fun ideas on how to quilt it. It's my friends very first quilt & she just lost her mom, so I'm trying to make it really special. So far, she absolutely loves it. :-) I've been giving her updates as I make headway to give her something to look forward to. She's really excited!!

I have an I Spy for the 7yr old DGS on my design wall--everything is cut and blocks sashed and ready to sew together--but ran out of the yellow to finish the inner border and trying to use fabric I had--so to the LQS tomorrow to find something that blends--only need about 1/4 of yd! Also have an I Spy all cut for 2yr old DGS--no fabric shortage there. Both are Christmas presents. Hope I have time to make 6 pairs of felted wool mittens and microwave bowl sets for extended family for Christmas & quilted bears for 3 DGS, too. Then there's the "nightmare" Storm at Sea for my DD! Plus have at least 1 customer quilt to get done before a trip to Ireland next month.

I finally got enough pixel heart blocks put together for a quilt.
Five of the blocks are quilted and I finished cutting batting and backing for the 25 that are left. Each block has 289 1.5" squares in it-verrrry time consuming and tedious. :) Hearts are varying shades of red and pink prints on a black background. The heart area is quilted in pink variegated thread. The background is quilted with black. It is QAYG. I goofed around with FMQ but I chickened out because I'm not good at it and need lots of practice. :) |
LadyJane-I love your DWR with jungle fabrics.
That looks really neat! |
I'm putting the final borders on a 50th anniversary quilt from our (DH and me) anniversary party. It's been fun but I've put the blocks together wrong way up at least twice. The end for the top is in sight.
|
I am making a ruffled handbag for myself, a "Patch-Pal" quilt for my new GGS, setting up a paper pieced project for a student. working a quilt for someone else (and I don't like the quilt, it is going to need some fixing before being quilted), trying to help a dear friend through a very hard time in her life, entertaining my Sister and her BF for a week, and having a yardsale every other weekend so I can get moved. Anybody want something done?
|
Love your baby quilt. I am dragging my feet (actually whole body:)). I have to finish a denim ticker tape quilt for an upcoming grandchild (due on the 21st, so I need to hustle). 10 burp cloths for said baby, a start on a 2nd quilt (with embroidered tortoises) again, for said baby and nursing pads for baby's mother. I need a rocket, quick smart or this is not going to happen. aaargh!
|
I'm working on "keeping calm" waiting for my machine to come back from its' service...it's been almost 2 weeks and I'm getting a bit grumpy....I've got a quilt basted and ready for quilting and am impatient to get on with it.
|
Just having written this thread, may give you the necessary get up an go on. It is a beautiful quilt. Just add those 5 inches of batting on and it is done. I have found the sooner I start tings I don't like, the quicker they are done and I am back on track. Good luck.
Ready, set,.....Go |
Just finished making 256 3" spinning spools scrappy and very addicting! Got it together now & trying to decide if it needs a border! Loved making the spools tho Bonnie Hunters pattern. My quilting room sits empty now awaiting delivery of longarm. Just found out it will be 3 more weeks before I get it! So disappointed! On to making another top for practicing on. My favorite part is piecing anyway so I'm cool with it !
