What's the Name of This Block?

A wonderful QB friend, Nise, asked me to post a picture of a block that was in a quilt made by her mother. She would love to know the name of it. She says it's not Winding Ways because it has a square in the middle. (Please note that the white around the sides are not part of the block -- just the background of the scan of her physical photograph). Thanks in advance!

Don't know the name of the block, but it would sure form interlocking circles when joined... Maybe some variation of DWR??

PaperPrincess might have the right idea on that block, it would be wonderful to see a picture of the complete quilt and that might help with the ID. At first I thought it might be a variation on the Monkey Wrench but haven't been able to find the exact shape with slight curve. Is the center a true square or do the corners stretch out?

the center is not a true square, because at the top it's a slight curve, and the corners do not stretch out.

There's one in Blockbase, called Broken Stone, which is very similar but the curves are more pronounced. There's another called Friendship Circle which has more pronounced curves and the center is smaller. I would say Broken Stone is the closest.

Hope this helps!

That's a very interesting block. I would love to see several joined or better yet a completed quilt.

It reminded me of drunken path variation.

In the Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns, compiled by Barbara Brackman, three names are listed for this block:

Broken Stone - Aunt Martha 1931
Lover's Quarrel - Aunt Martha 1931
New Wedding Ring - Rural New Yorker 3/21/31

Here's a whole quilt:
