This is a little tid-bit if you are ready to put on your label.
I take a small square of each fabric and place it under the label before I sew it to my quilts. That way somewhere down the line if it needs repair the fabrics are under the label and as the quilt is washed the fabric will be washed as well and all will match. This way you don't have to try and find fabric that will match years from now. I let the person to whom I give it to know that it is there Just a little tid bit Hope This helps someone yrs from now

well I'll be thats one good tip!

Now that's a really good tip. My tip is to make matching pillowcases for each quilt. They also get washed the same and are alos good for storage for quilts.

never heard of that- makes sense - I heard of other people taking credit for others quilts and was told write on with pigma pen then put on label over it and put on before quilting so is under quilting and can't be removed with out a lot of work and noticeable at judging

I like all the tips. Thank you.

I will have to do that on my next quilt, thanks for the great idea!

moonwork42029 02-16-2011 01:21 PM

lol... I didn't know about a quilt label until I started reading here :)

I have done that too, then with my daughter in law's quilt i made an actual pocket with a flap closure, out of matching fabrics and placed in the pocket fabrics and a special fabric 'letter' to her and that is part of the quilt; it has a velcro tab to keep it closed. it is an envelope like pocket.

That is a great idea!

= ) I thought maybe someone else was like me... I have holes under my label! I tried FMQ and failed again and got a little hole in the backing so I put the label over it (after dabbing some fabric glue on it)

I also had five minutes to put the label on or I wouldn't have made it to the post office, so it is pretty crooked! At least she will get it on time for her birthday = )

brilliant, thanks for the tip.

So cute and it looks great!!!

I love the idea of putting some of the fabric under the label. Now...if I could just get myself to start making the labels....lol.
