I am always cold! I am making a lap throw and want to have the backing be warm and snuggly. So my ? is whats warmer flannel or fleece?

I think fleece is warmer. :)

cotton or any natural fiber is warmer tan synthetic

If you can afford it, I would purchase Minkee.

Are you sure? The synthetics won't allow the quilt to breathe so they would hold the heat more according to my logic. That said, I do prefer the flannel.

I always prefer flannel to fleece. Fleece gets all static-y and makes me feel gross. lol

fleece because it does not breath---flannel makes wonderful- warm, cozy, soft, fluffy quilts- and the batting makes a difference to- the quilt on my bed has a cotton top, a wool batt and a flannel back- it is the most wonderful fluffy soft warm quilt- but also light weight and breaths so we actually have it on the bed in the summer too....it washes up so wonderfully- just gets better and better.
fleece is fine to use if that is what you want- but does have it's own set of (conditions) when getting ready to quilt it.

Natural fibers breath, poly's don't. So Poly's will hold the warmth in more effectively but they do this because they do not breath, and you may find that you are too warm and sweat. Sweating is natures way of cooling you off - but if your skin can't breath - it just keeps sweating. In the end you'll throw the quilt off of you and go from hot, to cold, to hot, to cold ... not good.

Soooo ... I personally would choose a natural fiber every time. If one layer isn't warm enough, then add another. Or instead of two layers of cotton, try wool. But I think allowing my skin to breath is important. I hate sweating!!

Martina, i think i really meant comfortable rather than warmer, my mind goes way faster than my fingers!

I would go with one of the soft and comfy lines at Joanns. I love the Minky and non bumpy minky like fabric. Those are the ones I would use if it was me and then bind in a satin binding. Ohhhh just thinking bout it makes me want to snuggled into ky blankets.

Minkee(Minky) will stay super soft and cuddly. It won't get lumpy, bumpy like fleece will sooner or later...

Fleece is warmer, because flannel is a cotton fabric so it breathes better.

I bought a super soft chocolate blanket the day after thanksgiving. Very soft like minkee. I didn't use any batting or backing. Just quitlted the top to it and then binded it. Turned out great and super warm and cheap!

fleece is softer but it make me feel sweety. It might make you to hot.

My favorite backing is ultra cuddle fabric from Joann's. It is the softest and coziest.

I love ultra cuddle.
