I've got way too many going.
9P activity - for FIL queen size
Sons HS memory quilt w/ siggie blocks & pictures - most everything has been collected for this.
Sis's quilt - Need to tear off old borders and coffee stain parts and put on new borders
Siggie swap
Lap quilt for me- already cut out
Baltimore Bliss BOM - Evening project

Then there's a list of the get ready to do!! Luckily only 3 of the above have time restrictions and one of the get together does.

I have many projects in the works. i am finishing a paper pieced flower garden, making pillowcaes dresses for my granddaughter, designing 2 quilts (twin size) for my grandsons, finishing a power lineman wall hanging for my husband (will post a picture as soon as it is finished), making a quilted paper pieced Christmas tree skirt for my daughter, and making two small quilts top for floor pillows for 2 of my nieces. It is alot to do but I could add more. I like to stay really busy.

Oh! And I have to make 3 bow tucks for Christmas gifts!

I think that is all.

Deborah12687 06-26-2010 05:45 AM

I am working on 8 quilts for my family members for xmas gifts this year. I have the tops done and now working on putting batting and backing on them and doing simple quilting. When I am not working on those I always have side projects that I can get done in a few days. I like to sew general and holiday projects that I can sell to pay for my quilting supplies and of course I can't resist those fabrics that calls my name heheheh! Really don't need to ad much to my huge...huge stash.

In the past I worked on one project and completed it before beginning another. Now I have more than one project going and find it is somewhat refreshing to have a change of "scenery." I just finished the small quilt shown and it is my first attempt at machine quilting. My husband's mother had hand pieced the blocks a short time before her death and many of them contain fabric of dresses she wore so it is very special to me. A small quilt kit my daughter gave me for my birthday is set together waiting to be quilted and I will do a wall hanging with it. Four patchwork placemats are in the works and just need to buy the contrasting trim to go around the edges before quilting them. On the shelf is another quilt kit with featured fabric Louisa by Terry Clothier Thompson that was a gift from my husband. My youngest daughter loved the pattern for "Running Free" in the July 1910 issue of The Quilter so she bought the fabric for it. As you can see, I am lucky that I'm not paying much for the pleasure of sewing thanks to all the gift givers!

Too many started. Two baby quilts, I Spy quilt for Children's Hospital, 3 pillows, and the little purses that you buy the handles for and you can change the bag. So cute. Will take pictures when finished with purse, such a cute idea. Plus 3 big quilts started. I have problems focusing!

I am currently working on a quilt for my daughter and son in law. It is between queen and king sized and Americana and American mixed. Mainly red, white, and blue, with a picnic pattern thrown in. I am working on the back now. This is the difficult part, since I am using red, white and blue and had to cut each piece to fit. DH helped me with that.
The other quilt is going to be a bargello quilt for my niece. That will be full sized and in blues and pinks

Debbie B 06-26-2010 06:55 AM

I am doing my first QAYG. I made up some blocks and quilted those. Now I'm in the process of putting them all together.

I'm working on a bumble bee pinwheel quilt.

What do you hope the project will look like? -- better than it has turned out so far...

Colors? -- Yellow with bee print, black, white

Size? -- Twin

Which techniques are you using? -- Piecing - Pinwheels

How will it be used? -- bed quilt

Who is it for? -- One of my student's older sister's baby

Why are you making it? -- student's parents ordered it

Is it a gift, to celebrate a special occassion, or just for fun? -- baby quilt

Approximately how much will it cost? -- I've spent about $70 on fabric, off to buy binding, already had batting

How did you come up with the idea? -- NorBanaQuilts helped me.

What will you write on the label--other than your name, the date, size and title. -- no lable - just a purple turtle (like my avatar) on the back.

What is the title of the project? -- bumblebee quilt

Did I miss anything? -- I embroidered the baby's name and a bumble bee into one of the pinwheels.

I've got ? Quilts in some stage of development or execution:

1) Machine quilting a large lap quilt for my mother's 85th birthday. Because of the special occasion, I bought 'the good stuff' for the fabric, what an indulgence!

2) Hand-quilting a queen-sized bed quilt for my 12-yo autistic DS. I created the design to reflect his love for trains and special time we have spent in Sedona, AZ. It's called 'Verde Canyon Railway,' and I love it. Which is good, because it involved hand-appliquéing hundreds of little railroad ties!

3) in the process of cutting many many 1.5" strips for a king-sized bed quilt for me and my DH. It's our turn, our current bedspread is in tatters! I'm making a scrappy log cabin, alternating very-darks and mediums with a bright red center square, signifying our love for Angels baseball!

4) just prepared the fabric for my first OBW. It's a beautiful, big Asian print and I think it will be awesome. This one is practice for a OBW that my DD and I are going to collaborate on. She is a costume design major at Boston University and wants to hand-dye and print a fabric panel that I will turn into a OBW for her first post-college apartment.

Plus I just finished a little dress for myself, and have a skirt and shorts I want to make for a trip to NYC in July.

Hey Fleurdelisquilts - welcome! I'm also an English major type and writer! We should be doing Jane Austen quilts, no?

I have way to many pots on the stove...so to speak. I'm doing some pp for some small projects. Have to go to the quilt shop for fabric to start a patriotic quilt soon. I have a stack of blocks from swaps i could be making many quilts from...Not enough hours in the day.

I like to work on several quilts at one time, this way I can either cut, piece, or quilt, what ever calls me that day. And whatever colors I feel like that day as well.

The 2 main projects I am working on are quilts for my granddaughters. I am making the same pattern, Winning Hand by Quilt in a day. But different fabrics, one is the Hawthorne Fairy fabrics from the books by Cicely Mary Barker, as well as the Magical Fairy also by Cicely Mary Barker, with coordinating fabrics. I got the fabrics from Keepsake Quilting. Since the main fabric has a large repeat, when it came to the backing, I ran out of material, so I decided to use the panel kit with coordinating material for the backing, this way it is reversible.

With my left over fabrics from the girls quilts I am making a Rail Fence pattern for their American Girl Dolls. They love coordinating outfits, so I thought I'd make coordinating quilts. This also gives me something different to work on when the mood strikes.

As for the label, I'm new to that. I took about a 15 year break in quilting and am just back to it. I have a quilt to send my daughter-in-law soon, "Three wishes" from Hoffman, with 10 different Hoffman fabrics and I'm still wondering exactly what I want to say, and how to do it. I like to write short poems, so will probably try something like that.

First of all, I quilt as a hobby ... a creative outlet.

Currently, I am working on 4 projects. #One is the first quilt I ever pieced (over 10 years ago) ... I'm hand quilting it; king sized (for DH) with MANY different fabrics in it and I'm only about half-way done. #Two is another king sized quilt (for me) that is already sewn together (SID) and bound and now I'm hand stitching a stencil design in each of the 100 blocks ... I hope to be finished that one by this coming winter. #Three is practicing FMQ ... I try to do some of that on a daily basis, but do not always manage. #Four is a new piecing project, a quilt called "Hanging Gardens" where I am choosing colors for each block as I go along, which is challenging and great fun ... am not sure yet what the finished size will be. In Hanging Gardens, I'm trying to use as many Bali 2-1/2" strips (left over from my last piecing project) as possible. This new project is in spite of the fact that I have 2 large plastic boxes with finished tops stored in them.

I put completion date on my labels (but NOT start date), my name, & any other info. pertinent to that particular quilt.

Unless I should get a specific request from a friend or relative (to do a wall hanging, for example), I only ever make bed or lap quilts. I have no interest in nor any place to hang quilts, whatever the size.

Right now I'm working on a quilt for my son, to be used on a double bed.
Story:
He's 25, but when he was 2 he fell asleep on our outside swing clutching his golf club. When he was 10 we let him join a summer junior golf league and in high school he was on the high school team. He was no 'great' golfer, but had some wins along the way that boosted his self esteem in everything, and he even went to the local community college because he could be on their golf team, they wanted him. At one of their tournaments he got a hole in one. Like I said, he's not great, but he's good. This is the first year he's paid for a membership to the local course and looked into buying a house that was for sale on that course, but it was in the process of being sold. I though, hey, he's going to need something for his bed when he does get a house, so I'm making a golf related quilt, just for him. It's not perfect, like his golfing my quilting is good but not great. He doesn't know about this, the secretness of it is almost driving me crazy, but I can do it
It's my first attempt at making a quilt completely by machine and it really didn't cost anything since I've had the fabric for over a 3 years, but it probably cost $40 originally

I just finished a courthouse log cabin for a wedding gift. Have a red white and blue baby quilt rail fence for a great grandson due in Aug. Have pieces together to start on a purples and white for one great granddaughter and a pinks and white for the other one. Trying to think of a pattern for another great grandson due 1st of nov. Any ideas has to be blues

Pati- in Phx 06-26-2010 11:31 AM

I am working on several different projects. as always. :D
For handwork time, usually evenings or when I have to go sit somewhere,
1. Hoffman challenge quilt. I am hand piecing this, and need to finish it up. Hasn't told me its name yet. It is in blues, blue-greens, greens and a bit of yellow. And I will add some gold lame to pick up the gold in the focal fabric.

2. Working on several hand applique projects, mostly Santas that will be gifts to my family members in honor of my mom. She collected Santa Claus stuff and this will be something to remember her at the holidays.

3. Need to get finished with the hand quilting of my "Dear Jane" quilt. Am working on the borders now.

At the machine:
1. Need to bind a quilt that is a donation for a "home" out of state.

2. Class samples..... always doing these. Since I teach at 2 shops and like to have samples with current fabrics in them.
Samples include both quilts and bags (I teach a Bag Lady Club at each shop so I make an average of at least 2 bags a month.)

3. Hoffman Challenge bag. Another using the Hoffman Challenge fabric and some coordinates. Still working on the design for this one.

Then there are many WIPs and PHDs that need to be worked on. sigh.

Should be in at the machine now, instead of here. <VBG>

That's a lot of questions. Right now I have several quilts in progress. There are two twin scrap quilts for great nieces, one pink/yellow/orange queen size quilt for a granddaughter, two quilts from a block of the month from a quilt shop, and three wall hangings made with pieces from a bridesmaid dress.

I really don't know how much each of them will cost. The most expensive ones will be the two from the BOM. The first one is the one I got from the shop and the second one is made from another fabric collection that I bought at full price.

The pink/yellow/orange quilt is made from fat quarters pulled from my stash. So they were likely bought over a period of time at various prices.

The three "memorial to a bridesmaid dress" wall hangings are because my mother in law made her three over 45 daughter in laws wear bridesmaid dresses.

My labels always have "name of the quilt" made especially for _____ by their gramma/aunt/friend/whatever in "year"

The majority of my quilts are made for relatives and they're just because. I do not make quilts for holidays because it's too much pressure to try and meet a specific deadline. I don't keep track of how much they cost. I don't care.

I have several WIPs, but the one that is closest to my heart is a quilt I am making for my son-in-law out of his youngest son's bibs. Brady died. He died on his 6th birthday. He had a trach from the time he was 13 months old and wore a bib ALL the time. He had many bibs, special gifts from family trips, hospital stays, holidays, sports themes. This has been very hard for me to work on because my heart still hurts just thinking about him. But it has been close to 2 1/2 years so I am going to get this done. It is turning out to be very plain. Appliqued the bibs onto squares. Using colorful stripe and plaid
for sashing and because he loves cars and trucks so much I am going to applique vehicles all around the borders. I have worked on it approx 2 full days so far, took a break to find car patterns, will probably take another week to complete. I can't remember all the questions you wanted answered. I will probably put something like "In memory of a most beautiful, brave and loving little boy...Brady."

Polly, You broke my heart. How wonderful of you to make this quilt. It will be a treasure for your son-in-law. I hope that you post a picture. My sympathies to you & your family. Debbie

I'm working on this blue and purple snowball 9patch mostly from scraps and fabric that was given to me. I think I paid about $30 for the stripes and dots. I'm deciding whether I need more fabric. I was going to make it for Camp erin, maybe 50 x 70, but I think I may make it as a wedding gift, and it will need to be waaaay bigger.

And I'm also working on our guild raffle quilt, sewing blocks together and then quilting it. The idea was to reproduce a charming Double Wrench quilt from the 1880s which belongs to a guild member. Our new blue one is next to the original.

I am just finished a black and white wall quilt that I made to give away on my website. A while back I made a large tote bag with a fleur de lis emblem on the front and it was very popular at my quilt guild meeting, so I decided to try to expand on that theme. It's been fun but machine appliquing black on black is difficult to see. I am quite sure that I had enough fun to try a few more, though!

I have way too many. In my defense I like to cut as much as I can in one day, sew one day, measure, design, etc. You get the picture.
I need to finish some that are ready for that step. I'm partially handicapped so I'm slower than I use to be. Unfortunately, I can't stop wanting to start new ones. I am now in the hand work stage and have several of those in progress. I've narrowed it down to about 30-40 in progress. To almost done to having fabric ready. I put them all in clear plastic boxes so I can keep track. I have been giving away or selling some of of the excess so that helps. Should have started about 10 years sooner!

I'm working on a throw that I guess I will always call "Daddy's Sampler" - he died just when I started it. It's a Debbie Mumm row-by-row sampler with scads of fabrics and even all-different neutrals. It's in warm autumn tones. Two rows are little houses with pine trees - cute! Rows of 4" pinwheels, hearts, bowties, stars, and several rows of larger stars. Here's the link to the pattern (if it works):

I'm putting the binding on my youngest granddaughter's. Then I have my grandson's to finish. Each month I have my BOM and 9 patch exchange. I took a rail watercolor class and now have that one to finish. I have to get the borders on and quilt one for one of my dearest friends. I have the top my grandmother made for my dad in the early 60's. I need to quilt that one. As if I didn't have enough started, I brought home one for charity last night. Our charity group helped out some beginners and those with little experience from a Mom's Club who make charity quilts. We had more "teacher's" than "students" so my sis and I started making blocks. We ended up bringing them home to finish.

I'm trying to finish a quilt I started called "Weaver Fever". I'm doing it in turquois and peach with a brown backing. Getting close to finishing it. Then I have a table runner hanging in my sewing room that I started in December that I'd like to finish too.

I'm working on a t-shirt quilt for my youngest son. He's an art teacher at a high school and has been the soccer coach for the past 9 years. Using the 9 shirts , he wants a LARGE quilt. It took me months before I had the nerve to start cutting them up. A friend is doing some embroidery for me to add to the arrangement. If I ever figure out how to send pictures, when I finish this thing, I'll put it on the site.
