Your summer quilt is one of the cutest quilts I have seen! Love it.

1screech 08-27-2014 08:04 AM

That will be one rockin quilt! I like the half square, it adds more interest. Cannot wait to see it finished...Spooky!!!

Still moving these around and thinking about dark grey sashing.

Very nice block, like puzzle pieces. I have a make shift design board that right now is folded up behind my bedroom door. Since we live in an apartment now, I can't put anything on the wall, so I confiscated a large corrugated cardboard box from something my DH bought, then I taped a piece of flannel over it with duct tape, it's working out great so far, even if it could be a little larger.

Necessity is the mother of invention! Another thing you could get a really large box from an appliance store and fold it along the crease in the cardboard. Could even make the DW larger and easily slipped behind a door or under a bed or sofa.

Oh love the gray pinwheels.

Sorry the pic is turn, i hope you can see mi applecore in progress. The fabric is from recycled shirts!
Happy quilting.

Love the way you have the apple cores laid out, with the darks sprinkled here and there and lights all around the outside. This my favorite way to lay out quilt pieces.

The colored strips are from scraps that someone was planning to fabric recycle because most of them were too narrow.

What great inspiration! I've got 2 on my wall. Been there for awhile. A few over the longarm just waiting to be done. Need a good dose of get-er-done!!

And what design wall would that be? My design wall is the floor in my den, which tells you that nothing stays there very long. froggyintexas

I have the parts to a BOM designed by Pat Sloan which is presented at the LQS. My is black, white, and lime green. I have a great design wall that mt DH put up for me using ceiling tile panels then covered with flannel.

Here's another one on my design wall. It's Star String block from Wombat quilts. I'm really having fun with it.

I love that block.

oksewglad 08-28-2014 10:26 AM

Jane, it looks like a fun quilt for scraps! Love the secondary design that is emerging.

I can't make up my mind what order to put these blocks, lol. Between that and deciding what fabrics to put together for the blocks in the first place, it feels like I've spent as much time deciding as making, lol!

Well this layout looks good. Are those actual handkerchiefs? Did you machine stitch or hand stitch them to the base square? Lovely color combinations.

The hankies are a panel - the pattern for the blocks is free here.

Thanks, Knitette.

Looks like those center strips were cut from a panel of squares sewn together. Would love to see the directions for this.

I goggled "Star String Block" and got nothing. Then I goggled Wombat quilts "Star String Block" and found the one in your post. It is paper pieced. This is where I found it: Images for Wombat Quilts "Star String Block"

Are those your own design? Love them and the colors you're using too!

I'm using clip art from the internet. We were given 42 summertime words and a square of fabric. I picked the colors from the fabric I was given. It's a lot of fun! :)

Actually, the blocks are paper pieced. It's giving me a great opportunity to work on my PPing skills which have been really lacking. The block is numbered, so you sew in numerical order.
