What's your most favorite quick precut friendly lap quilt pattern? (non-fat quarter)
I am looking for a quick quilt pattern, something that I can throw together in a day or two. Thought I would poll you guys for ideas, since ya'll always have awesome input.
I just finished the class I needed to rent the long arm at a LQS, so I want to throw together a quick lap quilt using fabric I already have in order to practice before I do a "real" 100x100 quilt that I am working on. All of the quilts I have on "standby" would probably take a bit more time than I want to devote to this practice quilt. Even though this is just practice, I still want to make something nice! Since I have some precuts that are just hanging around waiting for me to come up with a project for them... what is your favorite quick precut pattern? I am looking for things that use just one layer cake, or just one jelly roll, or maybe even a couple charm packs since I have some of those in pairs. I even have a couple 1/2yd bundles, but I don't have enough coordinated fat quarters to make anything worth putting on a quilting frame. Most of the patterns I find require more than just one pack/roll, or require additional yardage. I am trying to limit the need for yardage to backing and binding. |

If you have enough scraps in colour families, I would suggest the crayon one I did. It took about 3 days because it was fun and I wasn't in a hurry but you could piece it in a day easy. The original was a free insert in the October American Patchwork and Quilting. I changed the size of it for a smaller drag-a-long for my GNiece. The crayon strips were cut 2-1/2 X 5-1/2 and the crayon end was 5-1/2 inch square with the side pieces sewn on. I cut 2 inch sashing to go between the crayons. Here is a picture of it when I was deciding on if I wanted borders or not.[ATTACH=CONFIG]508542[/ATTACH]

The 3 Dudes quilt is pretty quick and easy. Uses 1 jelly roll. Oh, she did put a border on, but you could skip it.

My favorite quick quilts are Rail Fence and Yellow Brick Road. Trip around the world can be done quickly if you use a larger strip in the strip set.

I made a throw using the 3 Dudes pattern. I think I used 2 jelly rolls. That is my favorite quilt! I give away the quilts I make; but I just couldn't part with that throw. Jenny Doan has lots more fast, easy quilts. Right now, I am hand sewing binding on a Double Slice quilt. That is a very fast quilt to make. Most of Jenny's quilts are throw size.

I would check either Missouri Star's tutorials or Moda Bakeshop tutorials - they both use pre-cuts - unfortunately most patterns always include additional yardage or plain layer cakes or charm packs along with your printed packs
