Wheel chair quilt
 

Somewhere in this vast universe I have seen a wheelchair quilt with attachments etc for alziimer sufferers. Things to twiddle and stroke etc.

Can anyone point me in the correct direction for this pattern please. I am part way through a quilt and forgotten what to do. Put it on one side hoping I could find the quilt again.

Help.

If you google "Alzheimer patient quilt" several websites come up plus pictures of quilts made for Alzheimer patients. Maybe you're thinking of "Fidget Quilts" which are pictured on the page that lists all the sites. Good luck with the project.

When my grandmother needed one, I made a smal doll size blanket, made of different texture fabric squares, that I used fabric tabs to secure baby toys to. The baby toys (think stuffed animals that rattle) made a sound to 'investigate and touch', and they made different sounds, and had different textures. Might be difficult to do on large scale, but a labor of love for Nana.

(the baby toys are washable right with the blanket. I also put her first and last name on it. Things do get lost in a nursing situation.)

Here is a link to one shown on the board. This inspired me to make one, which is shown on the fifth page of replies. The one I made is a 2'x3', a little smaller than crib size, so it can be used in a wheel chair.

Thank you for such a wonderful idea. I will get started right away. My mother is 93 and has been in dementia care facility for a year and she either sleeps or she is awake yelling at everyone, maybe having this fidget quilt would calm her. I will try.

What a great idea!! My MIL has dementia and maybe a fidget blanket will help.
