I would make the management and the nurses aware that her quilt is missing and should be found and put back. Then I would never let them launder it! I'd make sure I took it home myself and did it. Its probably there somewhere, so take a picture of it with you (if you have one) and post a sign where everyone can see it.

All the best. If you can't find it, make another. In fact, make several for all the residents, then they don't have to borrow each others.

You know, I did take a picture of my sister with the quilt wrapped around her at Christmas. Thats a good idea will take it up there next trip so they know what we are looking for forgot all about that. Thanks for your imput.

That is so sad, but nursing homes are well known for this.

That is why I moved my mom home with me... I use to work nursing homes...

It used to happen with my mom too. I'd made her a quilt (be fore I even started quilting for real) and just about every time I'd go to visit her the quilt would be missing. However, talking to the staff to be on the lookout, and going on a search around the home always turned it up.

However, I don't think there's really any blame. My mom was probably one of the most honest people ever, but once she had Alzheimer's she did weird stuff -- like stealing someone else's remote control (for which she had no use LOL).

My mom has since passed away and her quilt is on my sofa providing me comfort.

My sis and I took care of our dad in the home for 6 years. He never had anything worth stealing so we didn't have that problem. But both pieces of his false teeth dissappeared and one hearing aid. A man that I befriended, who was in his right mind until he died, told me that he got some new shirts for fathers day and one morning when the aide came in to get him ready for a bath, she started looking thru his clothes in his closet and pulled out 2 of the new shirts and laid them aside. He said, I want to wear one of those. She told him no she was putting them in the laundry cause they were dirty. He never saw them again. He also had to put a lock on his little fridge cause the aids would come and help themselves to his sodas. I hope every aide who took something that didn't belong to them gets paid back when they get in a NH.

Go to the administrator of the rest home and politely tell them your story and ask that every room and closet be searched for the missing quilt. Sometimes it pays to start at the TOP!

Being lost in the laundry is one thing but being taken before it was cool enough for her to use is horrible. Some nursing home employees are not the most trust worthy. I feel your pain and frustration. Your sister should be allowed to enjoy some pleasurable comforts from her family without them being stolen from her.
