Have you ever run out of tear away?[ATTACH=CONFIG]346469[/ATTACH]and had to borrow some from somewhere else on the quilt top?:o

No - I don't do much machine embroidery - but, could you use the same type of paper that you paper piece with? I would think it would be better than nothing and would tear away easily enough.

Yup. I have used coffee filters and paper towels before.

I use regular typing/printer paper.

As long as you've already appliqued that area go ahead and remove needed stablizier. It won't make a difference. Even if you bought new you'd be piecing it in so use the old and safe money. Even when I use water sol. stablizier on embroidery I save what I can before I desolve it and when I need two layers, I hoop it with one large piece and the spray baste the waters soluable and put it where the designs will go. it saves alot of money that I can spend elsewhere.

For this type of applique, instead of using a stabilizer, I heavily starch the background fabric before cutting. This makes the background fabric stiff enough to prevent "tunneling" and other distortion from the applique.

My technique for starching yardage is to mix a 1:1 solution of Sta-Flo Liquid Laundry Starch and water, "paint" the solution on using a large wall painting brush until the fabric is saturated (I do this on my kitchen island), toss in dryer, then iron with steam.

I like to use tracing paper. :)

what Romanojg said. I do the same thing. It makes economical sense as well as better use of resources (JMHO)

I use tissue paper like you use for wrapping presents. It's inexpensive, tears away easily and works great for me.
