I saw a topic asking `how many hours` and I thought: hmm, let`s see. DD is anemic and I`m taking care of her gorgeous 6 week-old ... my GD!! (had her here all 5 days this week while DD slept and de-stressed) and ... we`re moving next week (18 years in this house) and packing and de-cluttering and then DD & her hubby move the following week (doesn`t take a genius to figure out who`s going to be doing a lot of that move).

But about the original question .. how many hours a day ... well I had my hand on my sewing maching today !!! ... to put the cover on and get it with all the other stuff ready to move ... so ... maybe 1 minute ...

And in May I broke my wrist and only a few days after the cast came off in June, DD had her baby and then there was the finalizing of the sale of our house and our purchase of a townhouse that will mean less work (ha! I can only hope) ... and I`m newly retired (June) and I had this dream of sitting in a real sewing room and creating beautiful things but I think that`s a bit farther down the road than I thought.

I hope you get lots of sewing time when you get settled in your new place :) sometimes we have to wait just a little while. Good luck with your move.

isnthatodd 08-12-2011 06:49 PM

Make sure you work in a little time for yourself somewhere, even if it's not sewing! Enjoy your granddaughter!

luvTooQuilt 08-12-2011 06:52 PM

Hang in there.. there is a light at the end of the tunnel..

Think of all the precious time your spending with that Grandbaby of yours.. Babies grow up fast and before you know it your wondering where the time went.. SO enjoy that baby.. You machine will be waiting for you...

Oh, I'm enjoying DG. It's funny how as a parent, you're so stressed about the other stuff but as a grandparent, you can just sit and enjoy. With all the boxes and chaos, there I sat, for over an hour, cuddling and saying 'patty cake, patty cake, baker's man' and clapping her hands together and enjoying her beautiful smile!

Summer Spice 08-12-2011 07:01 PM

I know where your coming from and sympathize, I hope things get a little easier for you soon.

Painiacs 08-12-2011 07:19 PM

Enjoy this new phase of life! Wow! Retire, grandbaby. Sell house, buy townhouse- relax and enjoy!! :)

I know you are enjoying that grand baby and during her nap time you can dream about your future sewing area. Sometimes the bumps in the road becomes blessings.

Thank God you are available to help the new mom.

I''m in 100% agreement with you on this!

My theory is that, as a grandparent, you've "seen it all" and know what is important...as a parent, you've seen nothing and think everything is important.

What a difference 20 years can make, huh?

chairjogger 08-12-2011 08:34 PM

oh oh oh.. you need to do a problem burning.. list everything.. put it in your turkey pan and burn it under the light of the moon !!

Let the sewing begin just after that !

marscrafter 08-12-2011 08:38 PM

Enjoy your granddaughter, your daughter is lucky to have such a supportive mom too. :-)

coloradosky 08-13-2011 12:42 AM

Best of luck to you and your family. Enjoy every moment with your DGD.

Gramof6 08-13-2011 12:49 AM

Enjoy that precious grand! There will be time to sew eventually. Sometimes life takes us down a diff path than the one we mapped out for ourselves. This is a speed bump & after your life settles down, I think you will have plenty of time to sew.

QuiltinMama 08-13-2011 03:00 AM

Thank goodness.. Life will slow down soon for you ..and you will be able to enjoy the sewing and the joy of the new grandchild.. take care of yourself..

Keep dreaming, you'll get there. Last summer I was working full time and trying to sew when I could; I lived more than 1 hr away from work so spent a lot time in traffic. In August I had a stroke & heart attack; spent 10 days in hospital; another 8 in a "nursing type home"; THEN I went to live with DD & SIL in another state to "heal".....finally got settled, got sewing machine set up in my room AND HEALED very well ! ALL this to say is that chaos doesn't end eventually and your life will settle down. I've since moved back to my home state in a small apt and I get to sew a little each day.

Take one day at a time....which is great advice from someone that has a hard time listening to same advice....

Enjoy GD......keep us updated.

Honeynga 08-13-2011 03:21 AM

SHOULD of said CHAOS DOES END !

Annaquilts 08-13-2011 03:24 AM

Bless you for being there for your daughter and granddaughter eventhough you are moving.

plainpat 08-13-2011 03:26 AM

Been there, still there, in some ways. Your Grdaughter will grow even faster than your DD did,so other posters are right, enjoy every min.I like to remember this quote....so very true.

"Cleaning and scrubbing will wait ’till tomorrow, but children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow. So quiet down cobwebs! Dust go to sleep! I’m rocking my baby. Babies don’t keep. – Ruth Hamilton"

loves_2_quilt 08-13-2011 03:51 AM

Good luck with both moves. Rock, hug, and kiss that baby and enjoy.

blueangel 08-13-2011 04:20 AM

Hope things settle down pretty soon and you will have time for yourself.

SueDor 08-13-2011 04:26 AM

Don't worry about sewing and quilting, of course with packing you aren't going to do that anyway. Enjoy your daughter and grandaughter.

IrishNY 08-13-2011 05:17 AM

So many exciting and wonderful new things in your life... enjoy them. Sewing will be waiting when everything else calms.

lfw045 08-13-2011 05:23 AM

Thank the good Lord that you have the energy to be able to bless your daughter and grandchild the way you are. Take one thing at at time and you'll have so much time on your hands shortly that you'll produce some beautiful quilts and other sewing projects......you'll see! Take care of yourself...don't forget to do that. :^)

lynnsim 08-13-2011 05:30 AM

Blessing on you for helping your DD & DGD. Enjoy your sewing when you are able to get back to it.

SharonTheriault 08-13-2011 06:02 AM

I love the Phaleanopsis in your picture. I used to grow orchids, then got into quilting. Phals are my favorite. Looks like a very healthy plant.

EagarBeez 08-13-2011 06:41 AM

best to you. I know things can be hectic. Have been through some rough times myself. Hang in there. Your a very loving grandmother, and your daughter is very lucky.
I don't mean to bring up anything health wise here, but, has your daughter been checked for the possibility of bleeding internally. I had that happen to me once. I barely could take 3 steps without feeling lethargic. Finally went to the dr and found this to be the case

michelled 08-13-2011 07:52 AM

Thanks for the suggestion. She's had a history of anemia, I think it's got a lot to do with her diet and perhaps some poor absorption of the nutrients in her food. Since she's got some digestive issues, it could be that her body doesn't get all the nutrients it should from what she eats.

deedum 08-14-2011 04:12 AM

Everything seems to come at once,so relax! You will get settled, just going to take time to get there. Sounds like you have some wonderful things happening, just all at once. Enjoy your retirement, your new gbaby and your new home! Can't wait to see pics of your new sewing room when you get settled! :)

susie-susie-susie 08-14-2011 07:06 AM

Boy, it's a good thing that you retired. You sure wouldn't have time to go to work with all that is going on. Hope your daughter starts to feel better soon. Anemia is sometimes a problem after a baby. Lots of green leafy veggies.

Enjoy that time with your granddaughter. Moving can be so stressful but it will be behind you soon and you will have time to get back to your quilting. My first grandchild will be born in October in Switzerland and I am going over to see him in November. Can't wait to hold him!
