I have some quilt blocks that are about 25 years old. Would these be considered vintage? I have seen some that were referred to as vintage that were not this old, but I am not sure if they are truly considered as such, or if some just take liberties with the word. What would you consider "vintage"? And would clothing, for instance, require more age than a quilt or quilt block to be called vintage? It seems to me the word is sometimes used all over the board, especially when an item is for sale.

Good question.

vintage is older than I am.......
I would consider vintage to be at least back to the 1930's or about 75 yrs. 25 yrs is definitely not vintage. |
or possibly pre WWII

I saw a posting on QB for someone selling vintage sewing baskets. I have an identical one in my closet. Then again, I guess I'm vingage at 67.

I think they are considered "Retro" at 25 years old.

I went to Google and the general agreement was anything less then 100 years old is vintage, over 100 an antique , but they don't say when you can start calling it vintage
|
i consider vintage to be anything 'time-specific'...such as 1800's fabrics, 30's, 40's 50's 70's 90's...if you can look at it and know it is from a different time (oh my gosh...i remember that from 1972!) that is vintage. it is different from antique, it is simply (timely)

The word vintage is being used very broadly I noticed. (mostly on ebay)
They will call something from the 80's vintage!! I always thought antique was something 100+ years old and vintage was around 50 but it varies so I have no idea, sorry! |
