I am thinking of using spray starch for a better finish for my quilt appliqued butterfly squares.
At what stage do I use it....before the squares are put together or after all the seams are made? If it is before sewing, will residue collect on the needle. Thanks, Pauline |
Try the new Niagara non aerosol spray starch. Much lighter than the regular aerosol. It doesnt foam up, it comes out in a nice mist. I got it at Walmart for under $2

Dooney, I am addicted to spray starch, use it on everything. I love to use it on my blocks to start it gives them a crisp finish . Stableizes them. I use it on the seams too, I've never had a problem with residue, just don't spray to heavy or to close.

Thanks for the info! Now how do I remember when I'm at walmart!?Lol

If I don't make a list, I might as well stay home! Can't remember a thing! :D

I spray before I start cutting my fabric, let dry and then press. I get my starch from the Dollar Tree, $1 a can :D:D:D

do what we did as kids, tie a string around your finger.

It's also great to use on precuts - charms, jelly rolls, layer cakes, or anything you might be cutting on the bias. I use it when prepping my binding strips. It makes such a difference in the finished binding. It holds the fabric together nicely and there is no stretch. When I'm done, I can't tell which seam is my final join.

use it when ever you want your fabric to have a bit of (stiffness)crispness-
it is very good to starch pre-washed fabrics=before cutting (you will get much better/precise cuts) use it when you have stuborn wrinkles it does not gum up your needle if will flake sometimes if you over spray-and press while still very wet-but that's not a big deal- the flakes just brush away. |
In the kids undies when they annoy you?

Oh, I'm really good at making lists for shopping; problem is I forget to take lists with me !!! Or I lose the list before I get out the door, i.e., I found a list the other day attached to the "painter's tape" I used to make cutting line..........

I am so forgetful that my DH wants me to make a list with only 1 item on it. Trouble is I can never find the list.
