Adding batting would make the quilts too warm for my grands. :D:D:D

Just make sure it is good fleece--got some really lousy stuff a while back---nothing to it after washing!
I was MAD, but cannot remember where I got it.That is what I get for rushing the shopping and it was rolled up on sale....of course, I had taken off the label. |
I love to use fleece backing on quilts pieced with flannel. No, I do not use batting. I have never free-motion quilted them...I always tie them. They are cuddly and people just love them, especially in the winter.

I use fleece all the time and never use batting with it. The quilt top and fleece backing is very soft and cuddly

I have used fleece as a backing 4 times. The first 3 quilts were already sandwiched before I discovered while FMQ that they didn't feel like quilts to me without the batting. They were soft and snuggly....but not quilty. I was going to take all the pins out and put in batting but my daughter stopped me saying that there were kids out there that would appreciate the squishy feel. However, for the 4th, I put batting in and I liked it a whole lot more. It wasn't too thick for my FMQ.

I have not put batting in the ones I've done but might try one now after reading AnnieF's post.
