I am looking for the nice gray insulated material to make potholder trivets with. Joann's & Hancocks doesn't have it and I know my quilting stores won't. Any advice?

Do you mean Insulbrite? I get it at Joanns here in Ames.

Yes, but I want the gray heat resistant backing to go with it.All I can find is the ironing board cover material. Maybe I should just use cotton on the back.

You can buy it in a package at walmart...or I should say you used to. I've bought mine at Joann's and its called insulbrite. Good luck.

I've also gotten insulbrite from Joann's and my local quilt store.

This is what I use. One is insulated, one is not.

You can use several layers of felted wool as the batting for your potholder. Cut three or more squares of felted wool fabric and layer them to use as batting. You can purchase felted wool fabric or wash a wool sweater to felt it. An adult-sized sweater should yield enough wool for several potholders.

I have purchased silver silicon coated cloth from Newark/Home Sew for $9.65/yard to make ironing board covers, ironing mats, and potholders. Sorry I don't
know how to put up a link, but you can just google it!

It sounds like you are looking for ironing board material quilted to a batting. I'd suggest switching to insulbrite, or layering it with ironing board material. Good Luck.

Thanks for asking the question... I need some, too. Will call WalMart and see if they have any Insulbrite...
