Where to Donate?
 

I'm enjoying making baby quilts and now need to decide where to donate them. Do you ladies have favorite places or suggestions. I kind of feel like I'd like to give them locally. I've contacted a local Linus coordinator and have also called the local domestic abuse haven. I didn't sense a need for the quilts when I talked to them.

It is sometimes difficult to get thru the bureaucracy of some hospitals. But just keep on trying. I agree local is better since then you avoid the expense of shipping. Ask at guild meetings or at your LQS. Maybe they could steer you to the right connection.

I donate to my local crisis pregnancy group. They love them and always can use more it seems. They also have support groups for the new moms past pregnancy and often there are older children who also need one.

What about a children's clinic? The pediatrician at a local clinic uses them to give to needy or really sick kids.

I donate to project Linus in Raleigh, NC and they always are very appreciative

You might ask a social worker if you know one. They often take kids from homes in crisis and the children have nothing but the clothes they're wearing. A quilt would be a comfort. Ditto about calling a police station or fire station.

My guild donates to Project Linus and to local Women's Shelters. Since those avenues haven't worked for you, try contacting your local fire department to see if they'd like to wrap up children in your quilts after they lose their homes to fires.

Our guild donated baby and children's quilts to the DHS shelter where they take kids from dangerous situations at home. I bet your community has a similar place---check with a police officer or social worker. We have also taken them to DVIS who has shelters and temporary homes for women and children fleeing domestic violence.

My community has a group The Call. They help foster kids. These kids have nothing to call their own and are moved from home to home. My sew group and guild donates quilts to give the kids. Teen boys are the ones that are usually left out, not the younger kids. Also the mental health centers have kids and young adults that come to the center daily. The were overjoyed with being able to choose a quilt of their own from our donation supply.

my group donates to: domestic violence centers. also local fire departments/ambulance. they put the blankets in the truck and wrap them around people when services are rendered.
