where to get fabric
Hello Everyone, I am just wondering where everyone buys their fabric, and if there are good online sources to investigate? I am in Canada and find the fabric very expensive and try to pick some up when I am in the States, as the difference in price is quite significant. I was thinking I should go online and see what the prices are but I'm not sure where to look. Also, what kind of batting is good to use and again, where do you find that at a good price? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

all good questions, and I'd love to get the answers too. From what I understand, buying and shipping to Canada is done - but from what I've read the shipping costs are horrendous and I think you have to pay some kind of duty on it too if it's coming from the States

Connecting Threads has some reasonable prices (on fabric, batting, notions and shipping).
They truck the goods to the border (they are in Washington state), so you pay Canadian postage even though the goods come from the US. That's the only US fabric store I know who does that. Watch for their sales. |
fabric.com is great for Canadian shipments...I Live in Alberta and 2 days delivery via UPS .. check their shipping costs to Canada...there is NO CUSTOMS DUTY on cotton it's part of the NAFTA agreement

Where are you in Eastern Ontario? Toronto is a waste land for fabric, but I have a few suggestions for you if you are any where near me in Toronto.

In BC, I have ordered from fabric.com and http://www.missouriquiltco.com/ I prefer vendors that shio by USPS not UPS. UPS will often charge a huge brokerage fee that can be as much as $30.00 on a shipment.
For batting your best bet is to buy locally as shipping it gets expensive because of the bulk. FabricLand West often has batting on sale fro 50% off, check the Ontario version of Fabricland and check their sales, you will need a membership to get the best deals. I have a friend who has bought lots from Connecting Threads and has been happy with the fabrics. |
Thousands of bolts is great

I have a few friends who have packages sent to me and I send it on to them. It's actually cheaper then shipping directly from the company. Not sure why they have to charge so much shipping.
