I would like to live somewhere in between Hamilton, Mo and Paducah, Ky so I could go shopping anytime I wanted to. But, I prefer the warmer weather here in E Texas.

I think the "Ideal Place" would be ABOVE the only quilt store in a warm area (like Yuma, AZ), so that you would have winter visitors to help keep the place going year round. But only super busy in the winter, so all summer (when it's OVER 110). You're able to sew and go take classes. I would have said living in a quilt store, but I don't want a ton of people using my bathroom - lol.

I like where I live. LqS is about a mile away and my hand quilting group meets every Wednesday in town. There are many great shops within a couple of hours away and are perfect for a " day trip" with friends. Shipshewana is good for an overnight trip with stops along the way. Best of all for me is grandkids right down the street.

Phoenix AZ is really great. We have lots of shops and many many guilds and sewing groups. We moved here to escape the East Coast. The cost of living is cheaper than MD and jobs are fairly plentiful. Our rent is quite reasonable. If we could afford to buy a house, that is not too bad either. You can drive a couple of hours away in the summer and be in a much cooler moutain area.

We now have a big quilt show coming to our are this winter.

Someplace where land is cheap, so I can build my own spacious quilting barn! And with good internet service.

With the internet, I already have world-class teachers available 24/7 and more quilt stores than I can count. What I'm lacking is space - space for all my old machines, space for a longarm, space to spread out a large quilt, space to have friends come work with me... I need more room than I can afford.

And with all the money I'd save on mortgage payments, I could travel anytime I wanted to see someone/someplace in person!

I truly think it depends greatly on so much.

What type of quilting do you do?
How often do you replace and or service your machine? Do you have a back up machine?
Do you like to go to retreats?
Are retreats an excuse for a holiday, or do you prefer to sleep in your own bed?
Do you want to join a guild?
What type, traditional, modern or a mix.
Do you want to do Charity work?

Although I live on an island, my Local Modern Quilt Guild is one of the largest in Canada. Even as a new guild (3 years old), we have completed a dozen charity quilts, have had great workshops with out of town presenters. We have monthly sew ins. There are numerous LQS within an hours drive

As a Canadian, I love living near the American border. Even with the difference in the dollar I can find excellent deals on the internet and have them delivered to to an address on the US side and go and pick them up.

Right inside a large quilt/fabric shop!
