I just got a new computer yesterday came home set it up. This morning was so excited to get on the forum since I haven't been here because of the computer. Since it was a new computer it didn't sign me in automatically. GRRR. but....There was an ad on the left hand side of the screen that had a quilt on it, I LOVE the look of the quilt. I know it is a cathedral window quilt, but it is without all the fuss of folding, tacking and handsewing. It is a large block and looks to be all sewn together by machine, with lots of curves I might add.

Anyone know where I can find the pattern?

P.S. if you need a visual sign out and look to the left. lol

Eddie did a fabulous tutorial on cathedral windows - all machine stitching:

Thank you Linda, I have acutally made a couple of blocks using this tutorial. Here is the picture that I am talking about. This doesn't have any folds or anything. The pieces look as though they were cut into the cat's eye (what I call the slanted open pieces) and then sewn to the pieces that are squared off on two sides. More like a Faux Cathedral Window quilt. I am sure it has a more "proper" name though.

I am not real experienced at recognizing quilt patterns, but it seems to resemble a orange peel pattern (at least the white part).

This looks like it if you could figure out the colored part (which looks like HST and made the peels one color instead of two in the pattern)

Thank you Nursie I think I might be able to make that pattern work for it. hmmm. I will have to print it tomorrow and play around with it a bit.

Where did you find your cute little Smiley Quilting Icon???

justwannaquilt 02-05-2010 05:32 AM

online some where, you can right click on it and save it if you want. Its not mine to be stingy with. lol

That pattern looks like a Penny Haren design. She pieces blocks and then appliques over them. This one is a big HST cut twice with the curve pieced added. That's how I would do it.

I have this pattern. It is all piecing, and no applique. Also a picture of the front of the book. It is jut a thin book, but has all great quilts in it. The book was published in 1996, but you might find it at amazon. Also the name is Hidden Circles.

Thanks, I will save it. I did a search online and did not come up with anything close. It is really cute.

I have been looking for this pattern.I want to make it like your picture.Did you find the book?

That pieced pattern sure looks complicated. The quilt in the ad picture doesn't look that complex.

It isn't. the one has 4 pieces in the center, and the other has, well, A Lot!.

justwannaquilt 02-06-2010 06:07 PM

OK so for some reason I am sure this is the most complicated way of doing it but here is a way that it can be done. lol I have also been contimplating just doing the HST idea. lol

If you print the pattern that Nursie posted twice, do a little cutting and taping Make the peel round on both sides. Then take the squareish piece and split it corner to courner both ways, and then side to side, and top to bottom you will have all your pieces. Add 1/4 inch all the way around and you have your templates.

The concept is the same though, and one could actually use that pattern to make the quilt in the ad, just make the center pieces solid instead of what the pattern calls for. Because after all the little pieces are sewn together it still comes together as four pieces. the only difference would be instead of your white peel part being all one piece it would be split with a seam down the center.
