Several of us are thinking of perhaps making a quilt called Affairs of the Heart, (by Aie Rossmann). It's striking, with applique blocks worked on a black background. To assemble, Aie used three narrow borders, finished width, 1in.

Can anyone suggest where I might be able to find a selection of Border Prints? My first thought was to look at Jinny Beyer's site, but a lot of hers sadly seem to be out of print, and those that weren't didn't seem to lend themselves very well.

Are you looking for fabric that has 'stripes' that can be cut to make a neat looking border? If that is the case I would look at the manufactures first to see if you see anything you like then search your LQS online to see if they have it. There are a lot of this type of fabric out there, but it is usually included in a line. I know El has designed several for her fabric lines. She does not label them 'border' prints so you will have to just look through her lines. Her site is http://www.quiltinaday.com/default.asp I just did a quick look and did not see anything that jumped out at me. Maybe somebody else will have a better idea for you.

Try www.quiltshops.com. Type in border prints and hit Search. I found over 82 shops that sell some kind of border print.

Amazon has the book and you can look at some of the inside pages.
Several of us are considering starting a self help thread after the Dear Jane quilt is finished. Care to join us?

No swaps or anything, you would just make your own quilt, but with online members sharing info etc.

Thanks Sandy, I'll try that in the morning.

Just popping in so I'll get the thread and info. Anyone who would like to think about doing this quilt with us...feel free to jump in! It will be awhile until we get started up as a group since we would all like to finish our Jane Stickle quilts..scheduled to finish in May 2011. So we'll start this quilt after that..plenty of time between now and then to think about it, plan and gather your fabrics.

I am also working on that pattern. I thought I would cut strips of fabric for the borders and embriodery on them with my machine. I look for places to use my Pfaff because i like to "play" with all the stitches.

I have a pile of border and striped fabrics in my stash and I do enjoy using them in the borders of quilts. Haven't purchased any for quite some time though.

Good idea, Mary - Elle also suggested lace over the background fabric, also a good idea.

How far along are you with your blocks? And may we please see a pic?

This is a beautiful quilt-not sure I am at that skill level yet though!

I will have to check into this as I am interested in trying this quilt. I need to get better at applique. And sticking to a schedule!

thanks for adding that info-I think I might want to try this pattern with you all in May :)

You would be surprised at how you improve, Shem - just as the DJers did. Lots of fear and trepidation to start with, now they are all pros, and PPing/Appliqueing doesn't seem to hold any terrors.

The same thing would happen with the AOTH quilt. I'll have to have a look to see if some of the blocks seem to be easier than others, and perhaps we can start with those first.

Here are pictures of my blocks. I have 8 done. I don't work on it often but I have fun when I do. These are cell phone pictures so the colors didn't show up as bright as they really are. I am doing the applique by machine and then satin stitching around each piece. then I use my built in stitches on my machine to accent them. I love to machine embroidery.

Mary...those are beautiful!

Vanessa....just jump in...it will be fun!

Lesley, go to ebay and search for "Border Fabric". Then chose "Sewing & Fabric" from the drop-down menu on the left, the chose "Quilting". There are hundreds of different fabrics shown. And if they won't ship to you, just have it sent to me and I'll forward on.

Also search for Stripe Fabric and Stripes Fabric. There are tons.
