Suz 12-08-2006 07:53 AM

My morning usually starts with Alex at 8:30 M-F on HGTV and 10:30 Tu DIY. Today when I tuned in at 8:30, no Alex. I realize we have been watching reruns for sometime, but at least we could see a show specializing in our (you and me and thousands of others) main interest. And even if I'd seen the show several times, I could always pick up something. Other stations have dropped "sewing" in general as well.

Are you as disappointed as me? How can we collectively object? Any ideas? Suzanne

Leslee 12-08-2006 08:50 AM

Suz--same here! Aaargh! But the schedule on HGTV had a show scheduled for yesterday, and then not again until the 11th. Seems odd, but who knows? We may not need to stage a Quilter's Revolt yet.

Norah 12-08-2006 10:16 AM

I heard several months ago that her show would be cancelled by the end of the year and it seems they were filming no more new shows after October. I do not remember where I heard this, but it was on the media somewhere. She will be active on her website. http://www.alexandersonquilts.com/main.php

It does not mention anything about cancellation, but I think it would not hurt for all of us to contact HGTV and let them know how much we like the show. This is the link.
http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/about_us/text/0,1783,HGTV_3080_4964,00.html

This link is a schedule of her shows. There is no show Dec 8.
http://alexandersonquilts.com/simplyquilts/index.php?year=2006&month=12

We can let HGTV know how much we appreciate Alex"s show. It may change their minds about cancellation, or at least, they will know how many want to keep her on. They may have already changed their minds, but I have not heard about that.
Alex's show is the only reason I wanted a satellite dish.

Boo 12-08-2006 10:40 AM

I had heard last spring that this was going to happen. It seems that there was a plan for another quilty show, but not heard anymore about that either. Anyone with solid information should let us know.

Leslee 12-08-2006 01:22 PM

Thank you, Norah. I just e-mailed HGTV and hope they get the message. ***As I was writing this, my e-mail messenger posted a reply from HGTV. It's one of those automated response things...but at least they got the e-mail. Let's all 500+ of us send our thoughts!

Becky 12-08-2006 02:49 PM

Yes I to am a fan of ALEX, I was reaally disappointed when it was'nt on today, I know a couple of shows they could take off and put more quilting shows on. I hope I still have America Quilts creatively on Sat AM, As far as I'n concerned they need alot more sewing shows,

foxxigrani 12-08-2006 04:26 PM

Alex is off as of the end of the yr the way I understand it. A lot of quilters from several boards that I have read did the same and tried to make HGTV change thier mind to no avail. But Alex now has an ipod shoot I don't know what its called but she has upgraded to IPods now . I used to have the addy but my computer took a dump and I lost it. But I am sure going to her web page you can find it on there. I understand from what I have seen its her new adventure. I know nothing about IPods shoot I am lucky if I even k now about computers. In fact on second thought I don't. But get by is all. We are still on dial up so couldn't get it anyway. Hope this helps you all.

Becky 12-08-2006 04:55 PM

Whats her Web-page? And I hope HGTV sees what a mistake it was taking her off, whether it was her idea or theirs, They need to replace it with another QUILTING SHOW

foxxigrani 12-09-2006 07:07 AM

I know they do but they are into reality shows, fixer uppers and the like, so they feel like we don't count I guess and have moved on. Its sad too cause that is about the only reason I watched HGTV, I now have trouble finding anything to watch.

Rita

Suz 12-09-2006 11:36 AM

Rita,
Norah lists the addresses you need above in the third message.
Years ago Simply quilts was on MWF in the morning and also in the afternoon as well as two shows on Saturday. Sandra Bastina was on TTh in the same time slot. When we moved to PA, we didn't get HGTV and I was so disappointed. Not this!!! I am not a happy camper --- sorry, happy quilter.
I doubt HGTV recognizes that quilting is the largest growing "craft" today. How many CRAFT shows, home repair, redos . . . . . . can we tolerate? They surely should have done some kind of survey to find our (quilter) numbers.
Someone mentioned other forums. Can you share these addys? Thanks. Suzanne

bbwalkup 12-09-2006 12:25 PM

While we're contacting HGTV, we need to tell them to air her show or any sewing/crafting shows in the evening!!! It's sad for those of us who have work to support our sewing addictions, HGTV show all the good shows while we're headed to work. Once we finally get to our sewing rooms all we get to see is gardening and redecorating. I have nothing against those, but really how many shows do those topics need??

Becky 12-09-2006 02:24 PM

Thats a great idea, I drive a school bus for special need children so I always miss it. I was looking forward to my 2 1/2 wks off, mainly so I could watch Alex.

patricej 01-12-2007 07:40 AM

I just went to the HGTV web site. Their program guide (I checked 1 Feb 07), list of "What's on TV", "Shows Z-Z" all still include Simply Quilts. So either they've kept it on after all or they haven't updated their web site.

I'm already at the office before 8:30 most days, so won't be able to check until Monday morning. I'm going to be really cranky if they've cancelled it. Crankier still if I can't access all the episodes through the web site. Talk about a treasure trove of ideas, instructions, web links, and inspiration!!!

For as long as it lasts, the link to the list of all episodes is

Two falls ago at Quilting in the Garden we were told that Simply Quilts would be going off of the air at the end of 2006. This fall Alex told us she was pod casting. You can find her pod casts on her web site
http://alexandersonquilts.com./main.php

or on the i-tunes site with a free down load/play.

Also, while surfing around, I found this web site.

http://www.thequiltshow.com/blog/

It seems Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson are partnering up to do a quilt show on the internet to be viewed at any time you want. You'll have to subscirbe. Not sure $$. They hope to have it up and running by April.

Alex says her contract with HGTV prevented her from competing with them after they canceled her show. It was interesting to listen to her and Ricky explain their new plans.

Not sure how much longer Simply Quilts will be on HGTV but the schedule can also be found on Alex's web site.

Bev 07-31-2007 06:10 AM

They cancelled it. I emailed them when I first heard the rumors quite a while ago, as did a kazillion of other quilters from all over, but all to no avail. It seems when they make up their minds to dump a show, they DO. Millions of quilters don't matter at all to them. My entire guild added their voices, but nothing mattered. We got polite form letters, that's all. I will miss her show. I always had my second cup of coffee while watching and frequently took notes.

zyxquilts 07-31-2007 06:56 AM

At least you got a letter! I emailed AND snail mailed, and got no response at all. Now about all they run on HGTV is how to sell your house or decorate it. Too bad they don't realize the buying power of quilters.

I, too, miss Alex. I have watched her shows for several years. All of a sudden they were gone. I e-mailed HGTV also, but to no avail. I am a little leery to pay $25 per yr to watch a show that may not be that good. Has anyone paid the money and has seen a show? Is it worthwhile?
Please let the rest of us quilters know. Thanks and happy quilting!

zyxquilts 07-31-2007 11:58 AM

Yes! I am a paid member of thequiltshow.com! You have to have at least a DSL connection to watch the shows, but I am very happy I paid! Each one of the shows seems to improve on the ones before & Alex & Ricky Tims work very well together! They are supposed to be putting in more 'how-to" segments in the upcoming series of shows, and they have been showing new tools & info on threads & how to pick photos to use in your quilts. Alex & Ricky seem to be having lots of fun & so does the studio audience. I have been lucky enough to attend lectures with both Alex & Ricky in the past, so maybe I was already biased to like their show! They bring plenty of humor & laughter to their quilting, and "in person" they appear to be just regular folks like us. :D

mojo11 08-02-2007 05:00 PM

Thank you for your reply. I have DSL so I should be able to watch it.
HGTV has done us a great injustice and they don't care. I don't even watch HGTV anymore.

lin 08-02-2007 05:52 PM

I was one of those kazillions Bev and I didn't even get a nice form letter. I miss her show. I even loved the re-runs. I learned so much from watching her and her guests. It was on DIY around here until just a few weeks ago. Only three times a week, but that was better than nothing. I DVR'd it so I'd never miss it. Ah well. Good things don't always last forever.

lin 08-02-2007 05:56 PM

Just read your post xyz. Thanks for all the info on the show. I bet they make a great pair! Lucky you for having gotten to meet them both. Ricky visited out guild a few years back but I couldn't make the meeting and missed him. But I did attend when Liz Porter came for a lecture, and she signed one of my quilts. She was really a neat person. So funny and down to earth.

Thanks... I did not know she was back on.. I just set the DVR so I can record them all again.. After I get a few I copy them on to a tape..

Norah 09-14-2007 06:11 PM

I saw her this morning at 8AM on the local cable presentation of HGTV> Yahooo!

Lisa 09-15-2007 03:50 PM

You can find Alex at WWW.THEQUILTSHOW.COM

She is doing a web based show. Lots of things to look at for free, you get to see one show for free (on the net) and you have to sign up and pay to become a member to see all of them. If you really want to see Alex in a different light, go onto the web site, you will have to create a user name and password (free) and check out her video dairy. It is hilarious! She seems to be having a great time and seems much more relaxed than she did on Simply Quilts, she really acts herself on this one. She does this show with Ricky Timms. I encourage everyone to take a look-see!

nanabirdmo 10-01-2007 04:17 PM

i was just perusing the board and ran across this thread. i, too miss alex, so when you mentioned that she was back i quick like a bunny checked my tv and wallaaa!!! there she is. so far all repeats, but thats ok i need lots of review :D :D :D

quilterj 10-02-2007 03:30 AM

i came across this thread too. i have never seen alex's quilting shows. a friend of mine lives in illinois and said she watches carol duvall on wha (ch.21). i guess it is her show and she has guests and do various things on the show. i guess she has done quilting on the show. i haven' seen this show either, so i may not be describing the show correctly.i was going to see if we get this channel and haven't gotten to it yet. does anyone watch this show and what is it all about?

jeanette

lin 10-02-2007 03:45 AM

quilterj~I used to watch the Carol Duvall show every morning even though I don't do many crafts. She used to do the best live Christmas shows! I just love her. She was always so sweet and sunny and had good guests on. She was the queen of crafting!! But she finally retired and so now all we can get are her re-runs, but that's ok.

nanabird~It's the same with Alex. They're not shooting new shows any more. All we'll get are re-runs, (and we're lucky to get even that!) but I watch them every morning. Some I've seen more than once LOL, but I like to be inspired by her and her guests. She's doing a show via the internet now with Ricky Timms.

mic-pa 10-02-2007 04:20 AM

It is all reruns but I still get it at 8:00 AM instead of 8:30 So check you local stations. Marge

quilterj 10-02-2007 04:39 AM

thanks everyone. watched it this morning. caught it just in time.

nanabirdmo 10-02-2007 06:41 AM

yea i need lots of reruns  how about eleanor burns? is she making new shows? i see reruns on rfd tv but my satelite is going to make me pay extra to get that channe. :x may be worth it if the shows are new.

luvsdp 10-26-2007 07:06 AM

Alex can be found now at thequiltshow.com. She has started this site with Ricky Tims. Lots of fun info.

blewbird 10-26-2007 02:23 PM

I "joined" the Alex/Tims quilt show online....charter membership.... a few dollars less.

Well....I have dial-up....NOT WATCHABLE ON DIAL-UP! So, I tried to watch it once on DD's speedy internet connection.....the show/broadcast was still broken up reception...but, besides that, it was mostly just a "pat on the back" show for Alex and Ricky and not much about quilting technique. I had heard from several other "charter members" that they were totally disenchanted by the content of the program and that they were very sorry they had joined. I don't know if they got enough complaints to change their format or not because I cannot watch it.

I wrote to the subscription place and asked for a refund because I was SO disappointed in quality and content of the show. I got a reply.... a very KURT reply stating that if I had read the "terms of agreement" I would have known that REFUNDS WOULD NOT BE GIVEN and that you did need fast internet connection to watch. They were VERY RUDE and not willing to bend at all. I haven't watched a show since!

azdesertrat 10-26-2007 04:49 PM

I don't if you have access to this or not but look for a channel called CREATE it usually has one or two quilting shows a day on it

blewbird 10-26-2007 06:49 PM

Thank you. I get 3 different quilting shows on TV, but I was SO disappointed in the Alex/Tim online show.
