Ok, Wisconsin Gals....
I'm taking a quick trip to Racine next week and will have to stumble across a local quilt shop or two LOL. Can anyone give me the inside scoop on the area. Tourist stuff also, we will have the kids along. Can't wait for Kringle and cheese curds!!!!
Thanks

We were up past that way a year or two ago...Hayward area at Grindstone Lake. It's GEORGEOUS! We had a great time but are trying to stay closer to home this time around.

In Racine, there is a place called Sew-n-Save, it is a retail machine store with a beautiful fabric gallery. It is on Hyw 11, west of Hyw 31, also there is a Joanne's on the same Hwy 11 before you get to the SNS. Hope you can find it.

Calico Canvas and Colors was a big one in Racine, and it just closed! The Sew 'n Save is really a sewing machine dealership, but they do carry some fabrics. It is a VERY reliable machine dealership with a good reputation.

Otherwise, as Quilter Pat said, there is Joanns.

It seems funny to think of Racine as a tourist area...

Cathe, thanks. I saw that the quilt shop had closed online and thought that a local could point me in the right direction. My husband chose the site, to be honest as long as there's a beach we're all good to go. We rarely get to spend down time together as a group and he'd like the kids to be able to really relax before they start back to school. We used to take my sister up to school in the Kenosha area and were spoiled by a constant supply of fresh Kringle which you really can't get down here....some sad attempts by Sams Club but not the real deal. We were going to head back up to Hayward but the drive is so long for us...we thought we'd try something new. They're supposed to have a zoo nearby and a fabric shop called Elmwood Fabrics closer to Milwaukee. We have no firm plans other than the hotel and will take it day by day. It will be a nice adventure.

The zoo in Racine is pretty cool really small but nice. I know I'm from Cleveland but my Uncle and Aunt live in Racine. Oh downtown Racine is really nice not sure where the public beach is but I know they have one. Have fun in Racine.

Thanks everyone!

We're back and had a great time at the beach. We went to North Beach, O&H and the zoo. We went out in the evening and figured that the quilt stores would be closed but DH pulled into the JoAnns lot to surpise me. I picked up a couple more pieces of red/white fabric and a really pretty navy/white batik for the bears paw (?). Kids were less than thrilled but tolerant LOL. The JoAnns in town is very nice & geared towards quilters. It's much nicer than ours and the staff was really helpful-----bonus** everything I picked was on sale, too! I love it when that happens.

We stayed at the Mariott and raved about the breakfast...They had Kringle...It's the little things in life :D

We stayed in Chicago a couple nights at the Sheraton on the Chicago river----with a view of the lake/partial view of downtown. BEAUTIFUL! We went to the pier, did some shopping on michigan ave. We even made time to go to the Billy Goat Tavern (original location) and Shedd Aquarium. A nice little trip before school starts....I'm counting the days!!!

We're all walking around going cheezborger cheezborger no pepsi, coke no fries, chips. The guys really did say that and also I order for you double cheezborger it's good, you like. LOL It was like a skit straight out of an old SNL episode.
