I spent the weekend tearing down my 1896 Singer treadle sewing machine and cleaning it. I am very excited about getting this one sewing because of the HUGE harp space it has. Anyway, as I tore it down I took pictures to make sure I could get it back together. I wiped down the shell of a machine and put it on a blanket to dry and proceeded to clean all the little tiny parts. There were a LOT of them. Dried them all off, made sure they were all clean and dry. I put them in a sour cream plastic container, put the lid on, and used permanent marker to write on the top. 1986 Treadle. Now, where to put it? I decided the best idea was to keep it with the machine. We left to attend a graduation party, then sewed for a while in the house. Next day, after work, I went to work cleaning up the irons and getting ready to make the table all pretty. All of a sudden I realized the plastic container of parts was not where I left it. For 3 hours, 3 of us hunted for that container. Yes, I checked the fridge. Twice. And the freezer, and the pond, and in the flower beds. Even in the house, where I had not even taken it. Maybe my oldtimers disease had gotten the best of me. Monday, DH cleaned house really good while I was at work. No luck. I hunted every spare moment. I was so obsessed with worry over loosing these parts I couldn't concentrate on anything else. DH went out to week whip around the pond and edges of the lawn this morning. He called me at 10 oclock. "Guess what I found?" Yes, he found it. The dog had buried it in the weeds surrounding our camper. I really didn't think she would touch it, besides she was only allowed free while I am out there with her, which was most of the day. Who would have thought she would touch that stuff smelling like kerosene. Well, if I could have kissed him through the phone DH would have gotten quite a shock. Just had to share!!

So cute!!!

Who would have thought?
So glad DH found the parts. |
I am so glad you found it! Now, don't be too hard on your dog. she was just being a dog...
|
Yeah
|
glad you found the parts
|
whew!
|
OMG - how lucky are you? All the parts must have been in the container or I'm guessing you wouldn't be so happy! Glad there was a good outcome for you.
|
how funny..and yet NOT...strange dog...glad you found the parts and can soon take pix to share with us!
|
Glad you found it.
|
Happy you found them, that would have drove me nuts
losing something so important . |
lol cute-glad you got the parts back
|
Whew! I know you are happy! What model machine do you have with such a large harp?
|
That is too funny, but I'm glad you found it.
|
I'm glad you (well your hubby!) was able to find it.
|
Fortunate that the parts didn't come out of the container and get scattered! Naughty pup!

I have spent days on one of my "treasure hunts" looking for some small insignificant thing, or larger ones. It will drive me nuts until I find it. I can't imagine a dog that would do such a thing. Makes me think of that commercial where the dog worries about his bone, and the neighbor's dog digging it up and he finally takes it to a bank and puts it in a safety deposit box, but still can't sleep worrying about it, goes and gets it out and reburies it in the yard. Do you suppose your dog has been watching tv when nobody knows it???
|
She didn't like the smell. so she got rid of it. Glad your Hubby found them. She was only trying to help.
|
Just gotta love dem pets!!
Glad you found the bits! Heather |
Now that's amazing. Glad you found all your parts.
|
What a dog!!!! So happy you found the container and parts. I'm getting a belt for my treadle and maybe I'll be using it soon. Getting excited.

She is a pistol. Black Lab, I had her off both days, she loves to swim. She gets in the pond. DH said that when he picked up the container and started walking towards her she slinked into her doghouse, she knew she was a bad girl!! I just love my pets. So does he, though he doesn't like other people to know that. She eats anything that don't eat her back, surprised she didn't chew up the container. We can't keep any kind of container except metal or glass anywhere near her or she chews it up. She even chews on the side of her home. Don't know how you break them of that. But don't be concerned about the dog. She chewed the plug off DH trailer last week. He was mad. I asked him who the dumb one was, parking the trailer right next to her. He couldn't argue with that. Trailer got new wires.

He just wanted to protect it for you.

glad you found it!
|
At least you know your not going nuts. This time you can REALLY blame it on the dog!!!
  |
Heppy ending to a great story!
Amen! |
When my husband was growing up on Houghton Lake their black lab would go up and down the shore and bring home anything the neighbors left out. They would call and say "do you have a such and such?"

Good ending!

Glad DH found the parts. The little demon pup. Guess he thought he found a treasure.

Great story....and so glad it turned out ok.
Dogs are such funny people. One of our Golden Retrievers was a pack rat. DH lost his cell phone one fall while working on the tractor in the driveway. We didn't find it until the next spring when we took the dog's kennel out of the garage and dumped his winter collection of treasures. Yup, there was the cell phone....with a few more teeth marks than the last time we had seen it. LOL Patti |
