I'm making a very easy rail fence quilt for my 3 year old niece. I know that my sister says she is interested in quilting, so I figured I'd take pictures of all the steps along the way that bring a quilt into being. I know my niece would get a kick out of it (I'm going to try and make it into a story) plus my sister can see the process.

An added bonus is that *maybe* non-quilting family members can see how time consuming this is!

Do any of you have any suggestions? Has anyone done this before?

I have in doing tutorials...I just take pictures of every step, you can add captions to them. If it is for your niece you can add pictures of you making silly faces, or holding up her picture and pointing to the fabric, and add them in here and there :D:D:D

I did a bit of this on my blog. I originally didn't intend to do a blog, but I wanted to document my way through a book tutorial I started and a blog page is actually the most efficient way to do this.

Within a blog you can post pictures, write out the steps and even keep tabs on how not to do something (when it turns out wrong).

It's also a really easy way for your family (and non- quilting friends) to keep up with the quilting process.

What a great idea. Non quilters don't realize what goes into a quilt.

What a great idea. I love the suggestion of adding pictures of yourself holding the fabric. My FIL would have called it clowning and performing. I'll have to do this.

Ha ha! I think the only thing you'll learn from me is how NOT to do something!!! :lol:

I like the idea of a blog!

What seems so easy for one person is very helpful to a beginning quilter. I've never done a fence rail and step-by-step pictures help me immensely as I'm able to follow picture instructions better than written ones. So I hope you do post it here to help those of us who don't have a lot of know-how and experience.
