I just wanted to stress how badly some animal shelters need bedding. "Ugly" quilts are seriously a godsend. I volunteer at a wildlife rehab and a no kill animal shelter. Both rely solely on donations like they all do. We are THRILLED when someone drops things off. The animals don't care if it's ugly. Just that it comforts them. So please think about donating to a shelter.

And recall, homeless folks prefer ugly quilts,as they are less likely to be stolen, sadly, enough.

Those are two great places for a charity quilt to go and I imagine neither one would consider it an ugly quilt anymore!

I live between 2 animal shelters, both too far away, and I found that a veterinary hospital will happily take donations of bedding (in my case it was old towels and blankets).

I love this thread. Someone shared a story with me about giving out quilts to children in the hospital. They let the kids pick which quilt they wanted . One ugly quilt in purple and brown continued to be eft behind unchosen UNTIL one child was drawn to it. She chose it for her own. when asked why she picked out this quilt, she replied that it reminded her of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. A sandwich that she loved but cannot eat. You see, she is allergic to peanuts. I just about bawled at hearing this story. I LOVE peanut butter and for a child to not be able to enjoy one, it broke my heart. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! So true in this case.
