So I had a few...well 9 extra pinwheel blocks from another quilt and decided to make a baby quilt out of them. I decided to use a flannel for the back because I had the perfect size to cover it. I forgot to pre-wash it. I'm halfway done hand quilting this thing...will it shrink terribly when I wash it? I read that flannel shrinks quit a bit.

It will probably look a little wrinkly and bumpy. I did the same thing when I made my son's first quilt. I loved the look so much, I never pre-wash unless I suspect bleeding. It was his favorite quilt until he out grew it. The quilt is still in his room.

Gosh makes it sound so appealing! A happy accident may have just happened.

Some flannel shrinks more then others ... at this point all you can do is hope for the best

I just finished a quilt that I forgot to prewash the flannel. The quilt got a little dirty (Thanks to me cat!) so I had to was it, when it was complete. I put it in the washer on a delicate cycle with cold water, and I had no shrinkage at all. I then hung it over a clothes airer inside the house til it was dry. Didnt have a problem with it

I would put on the label not wash in cold, dry on delicate of hang dry.

I agree with you. I love the look to. I never pre wash my fabric for that very reason.

i don't prewash and i always use warm & natural since it will shrink about the same amount as my fabric. gives my quilts a bit of old timey look. i plan my quilting with that in mind. some quilt stitches pucker up so nicely.

I don't prewash either.
love the pucker!
flannels do shrink more than some others
I use batiks alot and they don't shrink hardly at all,so don't give a pucker, but I still love the fabrics.
