I would definitely vote for the black-makes the blocks really pop!

I think black is too dramatic, I would use a solid dark grey instead; still 'pops' the colours but in a more subtle way.

If I could choose only between black and white, then I would choose white (yes, I know I'm alone... but I'm feeling brave :D)
