has anyone ever used white eyelet fabric in a quilt? Pros or cons? It is ""allowed" by quilt police? LOL

MaryStoaks 01-06-2011 07:48 PM

I think it might be nice layered with the color of your choice.

No...but I think Mary has a nice idea. Don't know if it's "allowed"...but be daring!!!

which quilt police!

No quilt police here. It could be very pretty. Go for it.

That's a neat idea. I also think it could be very pretty.

i made a quilt in 92 out of eyelet. A friend wanted an eyelet spread for her daughter, but after pricing them she asked me to make one. It really turned out nice.

I've been thinking about overlaying parts of a block with lace and ribbon, as soon as I get to it! Let's try out the ideas and find out what happens!

do you mean putting a piece of colored fabric under it to show thru the eyelet holes?

You can let out a big sigh of relief---there are no quilt police around here. We're here to help and share with each other.

Absolutely! If you shared pictures, you could give us all some new ideas, too!

I'll be interested in seeing what suggestions are here as I also have several yards of eyelet material.

One thought I had was to put it as a wide border on a quilt that I make a scalloped edge on.

Nancy also

I was given some lovely eyelet which I used for the apron on a giant sized SunBonnet Sue. I have also used it in piecing. In both cases, another fabric showed through from underneath. I don't worry about quilt police, but I don't want to look at the batting through the fabric.

I love seeing some texture in a quilt - I think eyelet lace would be lovely! Who makes up those so called "rules" anyway?

clem55 01-07-2011 06:44 AM

I used it as the badse of the fan in Grandmothers Fan, the background color showed through and it looks and worked great.

irishrose 01-07-2011 07:19 AM

It would be lovely. I'd used a very white muslin under it. Not much added weight, but a filter to hold the batting.

I use it in different applications.

Over the years I've made a dozen or so of this quick machine applique baby quilt. Sorry, it's a scan of an old picture, so not very clear, but you get the idea. I always use eyelet for the clouds. Sometimes I applique it right over the background fabric so the "sky" shows through (like a real cloud:)) and also used it with iron-on fleece to give it a fluffy dimension.

In any event, we all have immunity from the quilt police. Their laws do not apply in our world.

In my area, we have a saying, "There are no quilt police in Trinity County."
