Hi every-one, I am coming here for some advice. I haven't completed a quilt yet, but now I am getting ready to find an easy one, my question is. Do you have white in your stash and how much should I purchase. Thank-you.
I really like this board lots of help and great people.

If you want to use white, figure out which color in the pattern you are going to use *white* for, and buy the recommended yardage, that is one way....

Just like with any fabric Buy buy buy! I usually dont keep enough white on hand. tone on tone whites are kinda hard to find. I buy muslin by the bolt, in cream and white. Prints I buy 2 yrds at a time.

What Leatheflea said. I have lots of whites and tone on tones in my stash. I go in cycles where I use a lot of white then black. You'll figure your style. Good Luck

Whites, Tone on Tones, Creams, Tans, you can never have enough. Since you don't have a stash of neutrals yet, let your next few projects guide you and buy extra to stash away. Kona Cottons are great for whites and blacks if you like them that pure. I agree, you will figure out your style. I personally do not have any pure white or black in my stash, lol!

White is just like any other solid color, I think. I have several yards of it, but I also have loads of green, blue, light blue, peach, red and tan solids. I'll probably be digging out the white here shortly for a baby quilt but I haven't really needed it for a while.

As others have said, let your first few projects guide you - unless you see a mamma-jamma sale on white. Then go nuts!

I have never used just plain white, but I do use "white on white" fabric. I don't have a whole lot because I just recently decided I like using it in my quilts. As for how much to buy, it depends of if you want to buy enough to add to your stash or just what the pattern calls for. Me, I always buy more than I need - and my stash proves it.. :)

Nope not really. I almost never use white as I find it too stark. My avatar picture is the only quilt I made with white and I went back and forth to the store to buy enough.

I am like you...working on finishing my first quilt, so my advice may not be as tried and true as others, but, when you are using whites, be sure to use a white batting. If you use a cream color, or a somewhat speckled color, it will/may show through the white fabric, or dull the whitness of the fabric. Also, I have noticed that the white on white fabrics appear to be easier to see through. Kona solids are more substantial and so you will get a truer white since you can,t see through it, but I have read that quilting is seriously more noticable on a solid. I am not a good enough quilter yet to want to do it on a solid. Hope this is useful...Alice

I haven't used much white so far, but I did buy some, a whole bolt in fact. That sounds crazy, doesn't it... but I'm sure I'll use it.
