About 2 weeks ago, someone mentioned a White sewing machine suitable for young girls. I would appreciate if that would be repeated.
Our 2 oldest grand daughters love to use my Featherweight. I am reluctant to let them sew on it, as too many things can get out of adjustment.

From what I've heard, many of the older Singers are relatively hard to mess up.

I don't know about the White machine, but- I have an old singer and I've *never* had a problem with it. We bought our daughter (9) a beginner level Brother that she just started using yesterday. Seems very simple to use. She's only used it for several hours so far, but she's been doing great with it.

the older the easier to use...easy to control, good pressure so not a lot of sliding around

I bought a White 1099 (circa 1982) on ebay for about $80.00 bucks, including shipping. It's a cheap mechanical that would be a great first sewing machine.

Most any older mechanical machines are great for kids :D:D:D

I know how you feel about your Featherweight! I also know it is a very forgiving machine. But I'm also reluctant to let youngsters near it since they often have a tendency to want to turn all the knobs (like tension, presser bar pressure, etc). At least they can't change the type of stitch like on the multi-stitch modern machines!

I'm thinking of letting them use the treadle I recently acquired as soon as I get the belt taken care of.
