Hi Darlene. For some reason I do not understand but for less mess andbetter sewing the thread on the top and the one in the bobbin Must be the same; I perfer all purpose for hand sewing but for the actual hand Quilting its a lot better to use Quilting thread as its treaded and is stiffer and easy to thread. Also it helps prevent tangles in the thread. Hope this will help you.

I use Connecting Threads for piecing with Superior Bottom Line thread in the bobbin. Have been doing it for years.

I have a can of silicone spray that I get from marathon threads...whenever I get a spool that is not playing well, I give it a little spray of silicone..Sometimes the threads are dry and brittle...The spray helps a lot...

I guess I need to pay more attention to exactly how my thread is behaving. I have a variety of differnt thread, Gutterman, Mettler, C&C, Superior (which I haven't tried yet), Sulky, Robison-anton (haven't tried yet), Dual Duty, Aurifil (didn't know I had any until I just checked!) and a host of others that are quite old. I buy it when I see it on sale. The only thing I have noticed about thread is that my Janome doesn't like different thread top and bottom. Other than that ... I need to pay more attention.
Will definately start paying more attention to the thread I use. |
I have heard several sewing machine repair people say Coats & clarks is terrible for your machine. They say not to use it at all. I like to use Aurifil for my bobbin and Gutterman or Aurifil for the top.

i use dual duty and have never had a problem with it , but i did see on this forum not to long ago someone said they have changed there thread and some peoplle were having a problem with it , so far i am good with it

i read the posts and they appeared to stray from the original question. white thread on top and dark on bottom.
I don't believe the brand of thread makes any difference in a situation like this. One must be able to set tension exact to prevent this and would depend on a lot of factors - machine; how much thickness, pressure on the feet etc. So I don't believe just changing thread will solve the problem. |

My Janomes - Gold and Platinum will take Bottom Line in the bobbin (I buy Superior Threads prewound) but not as the top thread. I use Aurifil 50wt or Masterpiece 50wt as top thread. Whereas, my Bernina takes BL top and bobbin. |
None of my machines like Coats and Clark. I use Gutermann and Auriful.

I think I read that Coats and Clark recently changed the place their thread was made... Try 100% cotton. There is a thread called MACHINE QUILTING Use the same "name" on both top and bottom. I use it for sewing blocks together, everything. um...maybe your problem is the thread has to go through packed fuzz changing the actual tension. Clean the fuzz out of your bobbin. Take the case out and go behind it, also take the big plate off. Clean the felted fuzz that lodges around the teeth too. You will likely find more fuzz than you think you willl |
