Kaye Wood has a "six hour quilt" pattern which is strips and it's cute if done in the right "kid" fabrics. Love it and it's done on the serger (can be done on regular machine) with very little quilting necessary.

Use panels to suit the kids. Bless you for doing this, I know the kids will be so happy.

e-PatternsCentral.com Lots of quilt patterns for a few dollars each. I could never tackle that now

I have a simple pattern for a fleece blanket with fringe--no sewing required. You could make several of them in a day. However, you're getting a lot of ideas. I would need to scan in my pattern, but I'd be happy to do it if you're interested. Just PM me.
The Downy Quilts for Kids website also has some easy patterns that go together quickly. |
I would need a lot of notice for that many quilts!

Kay woods showed on for Project Linus a few years ago.Lay your backing down, face down and put your batting on it then add the top layer, face up. You can use large blocks or just appropriate fabric in one piece(whole cloth) Then you sew from edge to edge in a row about four to six inched wide then another and another. Is this as clear as mud?

Disappearing 9 patch. You can make the same blocks using different fabric; just 2 fabrics or 3 fabrics (makes the pattern look different each; and there are 5 different layouts. Simple block using strip method; fast and great end result. I have pictures of 5 different layouts I can send on PM to you if you email me.

If some of them are little and you want smaller quilts for themm I keep a stash of little ones-I would be willing to donate two of them to you.
Just PM me and we will see if we can coordinate something. Natalie |

I think that for most children, the fabric itself is far more important than the design. Fancy and intricate design is just not important to a little kid.
A fabric that is fascinating is wonderful. They love themed stuff or something that they like like food (say for the teenager) or dolls or pink or whatever, for the little girls. They would go wild about stuff like that and they'd feel very, very special. They could be simple blocks, but if they were the themes that they love, whether Mickey or Barbie or dolls or pizza, they'd be thrilled, I'm sure. Fancy patterns, however...don't expect them to be too excited about them. I mean, they will like them because someone made them for them, but they will love them MORE if the theme is what they love as well. Wish I could help. I love doing the kids' stuff, but I've got a bunch to finish up here...79 in fact, but they will all be tied, not quilted. |
I find "Warm Wishes" is so easy it's crazy!

How about a 9 patch block or a 4 patch block and alternate it with a plain block the same size?
Or just use big blocks like 8 or 10", they go quick........ Good Luck......... |

An easy/quilk quilt to make--
Cut strips from your childrens themed fabrics, adding some bright solids. Stitch these strips together into a strip set. And then cut into strips again. You can make the strips any size you need to make the finished size quilt you need. Make a bunch of these sets. For the younger children you don't have to separate boys/girls because you used children themed fabrics and bright solids. Mix them up, sew the rows together and you have a quilt. |
Here are some great ones that only use 3 colors per quilt - pictures, but no patterns unless you buy the kit, but they're pretty easy to figure out:

You will warm their hearts this Christmas. Bless you.

What about Quillows (quilts that fold up to be a pillow)? I made these for my 4 children and 5 grandchildren for Christmas. Very easy.
|
Bless you and we all appreciate your kindness.

Got lucky and found superman and spiderman prints at JoAnns today. Also some cute car prints for the 8-9 yo boys. I have o good girl fabs but didn't have much for boys in my stash. I'm thinking of the turning twenty pattern for the 15 yo boy. I can't say thank you enough for all the help from you all. I'll try to post as go. My husband promised to do the cooking while I quilt.
|
This would be great !!! You can change fabrics out and also use left-ove pieces for other quilts (scrappy) I like this pattern. Great quilt !!

We make prayer quilts for our church and simply cut 5 1/2" squares and go 8 squares across and 10 rows down. With borders, it makes a nice size quilt to wrap up in....bigger than a lap quilt. This nice things is you can use up tons of scraps. The more varied the colors and patterns, the more interesting the quilt. We just use Moda muslin for the backing which cuts down on the expense of buying coordinating fabric. Another idea is to make "I Spy" quilts. There were numerous people of this board who sent me squares and I was able to make two quilts from the donated squares. That quilt goes together quickly too Good luck on your project. What a wonderful way to share your gifts.

4 of us made almost 40 very simple blankets last summer. One gal doens't even sew on buttons, but she was invaluable for ironing and pinning. A second gal was good at layering the fabric. My sis in law and I sewed. We worked well as a team and no one was standing around. When it came time to tack, Ms No Sew tied the tack threads after SIL and I put the thread onto the quilt. |

Wow how time flies and thanks to online angels I think I can make it. I have a friend that may help me quilt, because that takes almost or more time than making a top. Sure glad to get all the kind words from you all and I just keep thinking of the kids and how they will feel special getting them. Thanks again.

Received # 2 and # 3 today and they are great, but please tell me how you joined the front and back of #2. I really looked it over and can't tell and I really like the look. Couldn't believe how fast they got here and again I thank you so much.

I just stitched them wrong sides together (like you would do for a comforter, leaving a little opening, then "birthed" it, turned the opening to the inside and hand stitched it closed. Then to give it a more finished look, I just topstitched it.
Thanks for letting me know they arrived safe and sound! Glad I could help!
