Who Do You Make Quilts For?

I have made four baby quilts for my grandchildren. I made a quilt for my daughter and am currently working on a quilt for my husband. After that I plan to make a quilt for my other daughter, a quilt for my friend who will graduate from college at the age of 61. After that I'll make a quilt for each of my sisters (2).

I'm the same, did quilts for family and now do for wounded warriors, convalesent home andchildren shelter

Most of my quilts are donation quilts to kids with cancer. I finally finished my quilt for myself, after 12 years, and have made a few for my granddaughter.

DebraK 12-13-2012 06:22 PM

I just make quilts that I want to make and then give them to whom ever I want, that would include family, or some who needs comfort, is having a baby, or a charitable donation.

Family, friends, Project Linus are what come to mind.

Challenge! I love watching me get better with each new quilt!

I make quilts for my husband, children, grandchildren, good friends, and for my 104 year old aunt and her friends.

For my 3 daughters, 10 grandchildren and 1 Great Granddaughter, quilts, tablerunners, wallhangings, candle mats, and anything else they would like. I love going to their homes and seeing the things I have made. They take good care of them and are so appreciative. I also make things for my 2 sisters and I made my brother a wallhanging for his Den for Christmas. Whew... its a good thing Im retired!

I've made them for family, hospice quilts, comfort quilts, nursing homes, babies and also some commision quilts. I enjoy making them and share them with others as my give back for the joy I find in making them.

Family, friends, & gifts :) one day I want to donate some quilts each year to Veterans.

Daylesewblessed 12-13-2012 07:16 PM

Almost all of my quilts go to charity, but I also do a quilt for each new baby in the family. Last year I finished a vintage top for our guest room.

Mariposa 12-13-2012 07:17 PM

I make things for family, friends, and charity groups. In 2013, I am going to make a couple of quilts for myself too! :)

Pat625 12-13-2012 07:21 PM

Mainlly my quilts are for family..I have 5 of my 14 grandbabies still to get made..Others have been made for friends , baby showers, weddings and my kids....The ones I enjoy the most are the ones i make "just because"

Wanabee Quiltin 12-13-2012 07:37 PM

I have to be totally honest: I make quilts for ME. Yes, I give some of them away, but the joy of making them is all for me. I started late in the quilting process and it is such a joy for me. I only make quilts that I totally love with the fabrics that I love. Never ever make a quilt just because someone expects it or hints for one. I have had so much fun and I will continue doing it until the day I die. If others just happen to love what I make (and they do), then that's OK, but I will never make a quilt that is expected of me or in fabrics I don't like. Life is just too darn short !

tjk829 12-13-2012 07:44 PM

I always start out making them for me, but I have yet to keep a single one! I, like Wanabee, came late to quilting and have become completely addicted. I have only made a dozen quilts and I am most definitely still learning, but it is truly a lifelong passion. I am working on a double irish chain in colors I love and this one is MINE.....probably.LOL

Lori S 12-13-2012 08:14 PM

I make them for who ever wants one that is "quilt worthy".

maryb44662 12-13-2012 08:20 PM

Friends and Family who appreciate all the hard work and long hours I put into them.

francie yuhas 12-13-2012 08:42 PM

You have to be pretty important to get one from me: I try to make each quilt withe recipient' tastes in mind.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 12-13-2012 09:05 PM

As WannaBeQuiltin said, I make quilts for ME! I give them away so I don't die in an avalanche of quilts.

I'm with you Wanabee Quiltin, but I have an 8 year old grandson whose brother has been gone for a full year in Africa and the older brother has always had a panda bear that travels and sleeps with him. Little brother, who misses him hughly, wants a quilt out of some very stiff, rough fabric and there is no way I could talk him out of it. Ironically, the brother is returning in January and may get back before the awful quilt is finished. Trying to get things out of the way so I can get it done. Never thought I'd make a quilt I didn't want to make but that little face did me in. Se la viv.

I volunteer for a quilt ministry at my church where we make quilts for church members who have a serious, life threatening illness. We pray for the person and their specific needs from start to finish so when the person uses it they are covered with prayer.

DOTTYMO 12-13-2012 11:11 PM

Each quilt is started because I, me want to learn a new technique or start a new something. Give some away to friends charity etc.or if the dogs suddenly sit on specific one it becomes theirs. I have three dogs and they all pick very different patterns and colours and patterns. Som quilts they don't even look at. Will make a quilt for people , they buy own fabric etc i put together and quilt. Cost is price of a class. I'm doing my thing at no cost.
I do send to charity , soldiers and to hospitals for children's wards and the ones which are the quickest intensive baby care. I also knit blankets and hats for them as well.

DixieLee 12-14-2012 05:47 AM

Family, friends, and charity and also to challenge myself to learn and try something new.

Cat18 12-14-2012 06:28 AM

I also made quilts for everyone close to me. Now I spend most of my time making Quilts of Valor or quilts for new babies!

I have only made 9 quilts. The first one I sold because the lady wanted it so bad. It was made from cheater fabric. I told her 150.00 because I thought she wouldn't pay that for it. But she did. The next one I made for my TOPS chapter to raffle off. It was a lap quilt made from Christmas fabric. It brought 65.00. The next was a lap that I made for my DIL's grandmother who turned 91 in July. The next 3 are for my grown children for Christmas, and the last 3 are lap quilts for my grown granddaughters for Christmas. They are all finished except for one lap quilt and one full sized one they both are waiting for binding.

I guess the next one will be for my husband. He has requested a southwest "I guess more mexican" design one. He likes the bold colors of Mexico. So now I have to come up with a pattern.
