I go to thrift stores for my own clothes and sometimes I'll see a blouse or something in 100% cotton in a beautiful print so I'll buy it for the fabric I can get out of it for a scrappy, if it's cheap. (I usually go on 50% off days.)

If you go, find out when they have a discount for senior citizens, because it may only be one day of the week. At our local Goodwill, senior citizens used to get a 15% discount everyday, but now they only give a discount to seniors on Thursdays, and it's 25%.

Oh yes, many many times! I keep the recycled fabric separate from new quilting cotton, for swapping purposes. But for my own quilts I do use cotton clothes from thrift stores. And I use sheets for backing too, even if they have some polyester in them.

I never use clothing for quilts. I have a very large stash and am trying to use it up. I bought my fabrics before I retired.

It is good for some people as they can't all buy new. I did use a sheet for a back on a tied quilt. Besides being too warm with a double batting, it would slide off of us. I donated it to a place that gives away quilts to people that need them. That comforter is keeping two people warm now as I cut it in half and finished off those sides.

I paid $1.00 for a 4X denim dress with a full skirt at a garage sale and paired it with red buffalo check I had at home. It made a nice looking donation quilt. (Denim yardage is expensive.). I like to hit the garage sales on Thursday mornings in my part of town but most of the time I find nothing I can use for quilting.
